installing Tanabe lowering springs, couple pertinent questions

Tanabe 1.5" drop springs, good condition, only about 5k miles on them is what the seller told me.

I already have the fronts installed, a friend did those for me while I worked on the turbo. He did a good job except the bottom of the driver's side spring didn't get seated perfectly into the cup/plate. I wasn't sure if it would settle into it or not (and I still need to check it, but I'm not near my car until tonight) and I'm getting a distinct hard tapping sound from the front driver's side whenever I hit a sharp bump or divot, even if small. Does the spring need to be compressed and reseated?

Also, I noticed the tires ride much closer to the fenders now (naturally, of course), but close enough that I'm not sure I won't damage the tires or fenders, should I roll the fenders? If I did, should it be enough to protect it all? Is there anywhere I can borrow/rent a fender roller? If a shop could do it for about the same cost as me renting one I might do that instead.

I don’t know about the sound, when I installed myn they seated fine and I had no sound. You are not going to need to roll the fenders but you need to make sure that the inside of the tire is not rubbing on the spring. After installing I put my 225’s on GTUs wheels and they rubbed all the nice pretty orange paint off the spring, luckily I caught it quick. I made a post and some guy sent me a pic of his tanabe’s that the same thing happened to but he didn’t catch it as quick and the spring was ruined. Drive around the block real quick and then take your tires back off and check to make sure its not rubbing. Now I am running spacers with ARP studs. Hope everything works out

why would the tire rub the spring? they're practically proportionate in size and shape to the stock springs... I'll check anyway, but that sounds strange.

this is an '87 TII, btw, if that makes any difference. so even with lots of strut travel around, say, a sharp turn, I won't hit the fenders? they're so frackin' close... I guess I could turn the wheel and see how much travel it would actually take to do it. anyone know the max travel of the stock struts?

If your running the stock TII wheels it might not, I did jump from 205 to 225.

you should be fine then..yep same prob with my car about rubbing the side of the spring...i ave 225/40/18 though..all i had to do was a 8mm wheel spacer in the front and they are fine. i have to press out the rear studs to put the spacers on. they dont rub just want the look. i was gonna use the arp studs too, someone said they use the same as some GMC... speedoflife- you putting alot into the car hope it all comes out right
