Question Installing replacement **** for '88 convertible top

Can anyone give any insight on how to remove the little metal bar that comes in the center of the **** for raising/lowering the convertible top? The **** on mine cracked in half a few weeks ago; I can still raise and lower the top by twisting the little metal bar to which the **** attaches (haven't been able to, though, with all the rain this month). I've purchased a replacement ****, but it comes with a shorter little metal bar already in the ****. It appears that the **** should just snap onto what is already there without this shorter piece. Is there a SAFE way to remove the bar from the new ****? I don't want to split the new **** in the course of doing this!

Thanks in advance.

are you talking about the **** on the dash control??

If so the metal rod is attached to the ****. You would remove the old rod from the switch, and use new one in its place

OK, thanks. The metal rod on the **** seems a lot shorter than the one that sticks out the side of the instrument pod, which was part of what prompted the question.

Is it necessary to disassemble anything to pull the old rod out?
