Installing replacement knob for '88 convertible top
Can anyone give any insight on how to remove the little metal bar that comes in the center of the knob for raising/lowering the convertible top? The knob on mine cracked in half a few weeks ago; I can still raise and lower the top by twisting the little metal bar to which the knob attaches (haven't been able to, though, with all the rain this month). I've purchased a replacement knob, but it comes with a shorter little metal bar already in the knob. It appears that the knob should just snap onto what is already there without this shorter piece. Is there a SAFE way to remove the bar from the new knob? I don't want to split the new knob in the course of doing this!
Thanks in advance. |
are you talking about the knob on the dash control??
If so the metal rod is attached to the knob. You would remove the old rod from the switch, and use new one in its place |
OK, thanks. The metal rod on the knob seems a lot shorter than the one that sticks out the side of the instrument pod, which was part of what prompted the question.
Is it necessary to disassemble anything to pull the old rod out? |
