installing old school trust intercooler

I just got my old school front mounted intercooler in (thanks eraumazda) and have a couple of questions.

1. anyone have a diagram of where the pipes go??? If not thats cool I can figure it out.

2. How exactly does a pop off valve work??? I know what it does just don't know how to set it for the differant boost levels?? Like if I don't want to go above 14psi how do I set it for that???

3. I'm guessing you use the stock tb inlet???

If anyone has some pics or advise on installing this or tips etc.. please let me know! Thanks

hondahater 10-05-04 08:57 PM

does anyone still have this??? I remember a long time ago when I finally got an atari and everyone else was getting nintendos, lol. and when I finally got a nintendo everyone else was geting nintendo 64's lol. Why does this seem strangly the same :)

yep I saw that along with a blue one in a black s4, and very nice might I add however I believe the s5 is differant from the s4. Man getting that paint off is fun :) I have that industrial strangth stuff that you spray on like spray paint and it just crinkles right off exept for the spots that are baked in.

gildardo 10-05-04 09:35 PM

I don't this the S5 or S4 are different.
Do you have a pic of your kit?

hondahater 10-05-04 09:36 PM

I think you have the complete piping.

Here is a start to the puzzle.

you are the man :) That looks about how it should be! Good job! As soon as I get them totally stripped of the paint re painted chrome I will try this way first.

hondahater 10-06-04 03:46 PM

anyone else have this setup?

gildardo 10-06-04 05:57 PM

This is sweet keep it comming,

I have a RE amemiya front mount just like that .need to install soon also

hondahater 10-06-04 08:13 PM

LOL, I'm going to show you guys the end result of painting them. It is looking sweet so far! First coat is on right now of the 500 degree engine enamel paint color aluminum.

hondahater 10-06-04 09:15 PM

one more question. How the hell do you mount it???? There is one little tab at the top of the intercooler is that supposed to fit in some sort of stock bolt hole location???

hondahater 10-07-04 10:29 AM

bump

Bukwild 10-07-04 01:39 PM

why are you painting them? If you want the aluminum look just polish them and seal them with zoop.

hondahater 10-07-04 01:56 PM

This looks about 100% better and easier to do. There is alot of surface rust from the heat so I sanded alot of it off as well as got all the paint off and now I put the first two coats of aluminum on and have one more to go, after witch I will spray a coat or maybe two of clear coat on it. Looks good so far and when I'm done I'll post some pics.

here is a pic of the before and durring proccess of painting the ic piping. Is it ok to paint the intercooler???

V8what?! 10-07-04 06:21 PM

that's right

The configuration you have drawn is correct. I too have this kit. Any other questions about it?

V8what?! 10-07-04 06:23 PM

The one mount located on the top middle of the intercooler bolts up to the hood latch. Any other q's?

hondahater 10-07-04 08:34 PM

v8what you are the man!!!!! Thank you much!!!!!

hondahater 10-07-04 09:06 PM

oh and witch one is correct the first or second one???? I'm following the second one and damn I can't get the piece after the long piece that goes over the manifold on. Oh you got any good pictures???

gildardo 10-07-04 09:28 PM

DO you mean the U shaped one.

Gil

hondahater 10-07-04 09:38 PM

No the piece right after the piece that goes right next to the manifold (the wierd m looking one). I have all the pipes on from the tb to the intercooler except that one piece cause it won't fit. you have the u shaped piece then the long piece that goes next to the manifold then the wierd piece I can't get then the long u shaped piece then the bent piece that goes into the top of the fmic.

gildardo 10-07-04 09:52 PM

Do you have a pic of the intallation. Is their enoph space for bouth of them? Hve you fitted all the other piping in. Yhea that one look funny, flip it around.

Are you using the stock air filter box, because I think you have to use an aftermarket filter adn housing.

I'll flash a pic hold on a sec.

jon88se 10-07-04 10:02 PM

Yes, you can paint the intercooler. If it isn't going to be protected by some kind of grille, toss on a few coats and maybe an aerosol clearcoat as well. You don't want pebbles and such chipping it .

hondahater 10-07-04 10:05 PM

cool thanks I just mounted it without painting it but I may drop it since it's only one bolt and spray a couple of coats on it and clear coat is like I did my piping. Even though I'm fucking the paint on one of the pipes up because I can't fit the bitch! grrrrr!

hondahater 10-08-04 07:41 AM

Bukwild 10-08-04 07:49 AM

does the paint effect cooling capacity?

hondahater 10-08-04 08:16 AM

prolly not at the top where it gets close to the intake manifold I'm going to get some of that exhaust tape.

jon88se 10-08-04 09:13 AM

Nope...high temp paint won't effect the IC's ability to do it's job.

Hondahater, if you're chipping the paint while mounting the pipes try wrapping them in plastic wrap. When they are mounted, cut the wrapping off.

hondahater 10-08-04 09:27 AM

good Idea! Its only one that one piece cause I can't get it to fit! I wish I could see some pictures of that piece installed. Maybe someone that still has this old school piece would be nice enough to snap a pic. Anyways I'm going to wrap it right now, thanks for the idea.

sudseh 10-08-04 12:22 PM

what color are you painting the ic, and can the ic be seen from outside the car?

~if the answers are silver and yes, i would strongly recommend painting the ic flat black so you don't have any outside temptation for "appropriation" ;)

~suds

hondahater 10-08-04 12:33 PM

lol, well luckily I live in a place where 2/3 of the people that live here don't know what an intercooler is let alone what one looks like :) The only guy that has a turbo around here has an svt or whatever and up until reasantly I thought he had those fart can's that sound like a bov, lol.

sudseh 10-08-04 01:26 PM

lol.. aiight dude :)

try this.

Attachment 718829

hondahater 10-08-04 02:37 PM

ok I'll try it. Do you have this same kit???? If so do you have an pics of yours installed at that point???

gildardo 10-08-04 02:43 PM

I have the same intercooler, but with half the piping and different piping rout. I haven't installed it yet.

GIL

hondahater 10-08-04 02:48 PM

hey I was just looking at it and where would the bov go???? Also it just looks to perfect the way you had it before (1st way you made it). I just tried and that way doesn't work either.

gildardo 10-08-04 02:51 PM

so all the other piping worked. It's only the funny M shaped one that is hard to fit.

Gil

gildardo 10-08-04 02:52 PM

do you have pics of the under side of the car.

Gil

gildardo 10-08-04 02:57 PM

flip it around and try it, thats if you havent tried it.

hondahater 10-08-04 02:58 PM

I can snap some but I think what I'm going to do is

a. put my intercooler back in because I just sprayed it and clear coated it.
b. set the car down cause its on a jack stand.
c. take off the strut tower bar so that I have more leverage with the piece that goes infront of the manifold. This may help that piece fit in there. I'll let you know in about 20 minutes.

gildardo 10-08-04 03:01 PM

kool, see ya in 20 min.

Gil

hondahater 10-08-04 03:33 PM

well here is what I found but I'm kinda confused because this way only leaves the longer u shaped piece to connect the bottom piece of the intercooler.

gildardo 10-08-04 03:41 PM

you coud just buy one of those smal 90 degree shapped piping.
But, yhea it's confusing.

hondahater 10-08-04 03:43 PM

shit, you where suposed to have the answer :)
