Lol :)

hondahater 10-08-04 03:56 PM

If I have to when I put the turbo back in and find out how off that big u is I may just cut it to what it should be. Damn this sucks!

gildardo 10-08-04 04:00 PM

so you don't have the turbo in yet or the piping leading to the turbo.
things might be different when you install the turbo.

Gil

hondahater 10-08-04 04:03 PM

another thing that sucks is I'm not exactly sure where the turbo inlet duct is going to go???

gildardo 10-08-04 04:08 PM

I think you need to make your own intake duckt with a cone filter. Otherwise the stock intake box wont fit.

Gil

gildardo 10-08-04 04:11 PM

Quite a puzzle.

hondahater 10-08-04 04:22 PM

oh I already have a custome tid however it looks like it is still going to go right where the piping is going now.

well I figured it out thanks to gildardo and the others. Here are some pics for future referance when other people do a search for old school trust intercoolers. The wierd part about this is that the freakin bov is on the bottom of the car  oh well here are the pics.

sudseh 10-09-04 03:00 PM

dude, that's so you can get an exhaust shop to bend you up a pipe that connects to that outlet one on side and onto your exhaust on the other end. make it sound like no bov exists :)

hondahater 10-09-04 03:06 PM

why would you do that?? Sleeper affect??? I guess I've heard of stranger things but my car is no sleeper. I have silver racing stripes :) I got it painted that way a while back when I owned this car the first time now that I'm about 4 or 5 years older and now own it for the second time I think I would have liked it just a sleeper however I do like my stripes and probably plan on keeping them. The other problem with haveing a bov way at the bottom is now I gotta rout a freakin' vac line all the way to a vac source.

sudseh 10-09-04 03:17 PM

not for sleeper. although that would be cool... iirc, the exhaust flowing past the bov outlet would create a l'il vacuum that would help get all the air out.

hondahater 10-09-04 03:24 PM

well this bov has a vac line from it to the intercooler wich I've never seen before what do you think it is for???

sudseh 10-09-04 03:48 PM

imho, the bov uses the pressure as measured from the intercooler to trigger the valve. not 100% sure though

that car has a t04 on an hks manifold, if you have something else, the piping will be different.

The last piece to the puzzle. At least now their are two ways to install it :).

Final configuration......;)

Thanks j9fd3s and Hondahater, this will help many FC owners including me.

Hey,

Great thread, Just a quick question I have an intercooler setup like this, going to make the piping. I was wondering are you guys using 2.5 or 2 inch.

Thanks

hondahater 10-10-04 12:04 AM

I'll check the size of the piping tomorrow and post it. Gildardo, I tried that configuration today but it didn't fit??? Well the part that didn't fit was the staight pipe that goes to the outlet of the intercooler. The hks bov must be aftermarket because without it, it would work I think but with it it is just to big to fit in there. I'm going to try better tomorrow and see whats up and will post the results of that.

ps. thanks for your help as well j9

You could move the BOV to the long pipe.

thats where mine is, its right next to the alt

hondahater 10-10-04 04:59 PM

well the long pipe has a pov on it so I have to keep this configurations however I was able to fit it in there without the couplers so it may fit in there with the couplers if I where to pry my ass off. I'm going to post what works for me in the end when I get my turbo back.

FC3S.USD 10-12-04 11:11 AM

And the piping is ? 2.5 or 2 and what material is it ( alu or SS or plain steal )

Thanks

hondahater 10-12-04 11:27 AM

looks like 2.25. The material used for mine seems like aluminum because it is pretty light compared to my old ghetto fmic used with exhaust piping.

FC3S.USD 10-12-04 03:39 PM

Thanks for the reply off to buy tubing .

J-Rat 10-21-04 04:16 PM

ANy pics of this when its totally istalled from the front view?

hondahater 10-21-04 04:45 PM

haven't gotten my turbo back from the fuckin machine shop yet and it's pissing me off but as soon as I do I will post pics.

ok results of the install. the second pic on the first page is almost the correct way here is the correct way from throttle boddy to intercooler.

1. small U-shaped pipe with greddy on it.
2. long piece that goes infront of the uim.
3. larger of the two 90's that come in the set.
4. wierd w shaped piece.
5. Lastly the straight pipe will go to the intercooler on the top

now for the intercooler to the turbo

6. smaller of the two 90's
7. piece of pipe that looks like this (bad drawing) __/---- the piece is straight then in the middle bends upward in a 45* angle and then goes straight again.
8. the real curvey pipe that looks almost like a question mark.

Anyways here is pics installed.

gildardo 10-30-04 07:56 PM

Thanks HOndahater...

Gil

gildardo 10-30-04 07:57 PM

Have you noticed any differences in power compared to the smic, any lag.

GIl

hondahater 10-30-04 09:27 PM

no problem man, i dont have a boost controller as of yet so i am only boosting at 5.5psi however when my piece of shit ebc was working i got boost 1krpm later than with the tmic.when i do get my boost controller i will post the results.

hondahater 11-07-04 05:53 PM

ok I promise this will be the last post :) Anyways an update now that I have my boost controller and it is installed. First off I noticed no increase in turbo lag from the stock tmic so that was a great plus! Also I noticed that I had strong boost through out my hole time driving unlike with the heat soaked tmic that would start to pull less and less the hotter everything became under the hood. In all this was a great upgrade to the tmic and I would recomend this intercooler to anyone that can't quite afford the money for the newer greddy intercooler setup. The install after finding out where the piping went was very easy infact to put the ic in all you have to do is put it up through the bottom of the car and bolt it to the hood latch (you'll see what I"m saying) and you are done. Anyways just make sure when you are buying this setup that you see all the piping that is on this thread because alot of the time the kits on ebay don't come with all the piping. Good luck!

johnrxt2 11-16-04 08:34 PM

I just bought a trust 3 row from japan, it is in perfect condition. Do u guys know if the three row mounts the same as the 2 row?

hondahater 11-16-04 09:07 PM

do you have a pic?

TwEaK 11-16-04 09:44 PM

hondahater can you take a pic from the front to see how much of it you can see threw the front grill??? Thanks

How about the actual manual from greddy in scanned pdf format

Right Click, Save As http://students.bradley.edu/~jjarvis/greddy.pdf

hondahater 11-16-04 10:20 PM

tweak check out the first pic in this thread https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.php?t=367351 and wanked fc you bastard! If I had that when I first made this thread it would have been alot shorter! Very cool manual man!!!!!

EVERYONE THAT IS INSTALLING THIS KIT CHECK OUT THE MANUAL IN THE LINK HERE http://students.bradley.edu/~jjarvis/greddy.pdf ALL YOUR ANSWERS WILL BE ASKED AS FAR AS INSTALLATION.

that is the same one I have and it bolts in with one bolt to the hood latch.

someone needs to archive this thread by the way!

Wanked_FC 11-16-04 10:32 PM

Sorry I didnt see the thread sooner :). I just acquired the manual when I purchased my kit a few days ago. But I'll leave the manual in my webspace until I graduate from college and they take away my account.

hondahater 11-16-04 11:01 PM

Hey where did you get it by the way?? Came with a manual, thats incredible.

oh and after looking closely my kit was a tad bit differant in the fact that I didn't have to rotate the compressor housing 200 degrees. I had a question mark looking pipe that fit directly to the stock compressor house location.

Wanked_FC 11-16-04 11:08 PM

I got it from 87GTR

hondahater 11-16-04 11:11 PM

well very cool, maybe you could post some pics here after the install! THanks.

Wanked_FC 11-16-04 11:20 PM

you might have had a combination of hks and trust pipes. The hks kit core is very simliar to the trust core and it doesnt not require the compressor to be rotated.

hondahater 11-17-04 12:18 AM

yeah I think the trust, hks and reamimya (sp) are all basically the same setup.

johnrxt2 11-17-04 09:10 AM

trust

i do not have pics i just got it in the mail yesterday, it is sweet though. How do i plug up the holes for the extra injectors i have no use for them

hondahater 11-17-04 10:13 AM

mine where welded over as you can see in some of the pics in this thread however I think there where plugs that you could get for them but probably not still around.

johnrxt2 11-17-04 11:11 AM

did u have to do any cutting on the chasis i saw the installation manual and it said that it has to cut, for piping to go through?
I guess i will have to find some plugs or just weld mine up for the injector holes, my kit does not have a blowoff valve flange welded on it. It is a full kit from looking at ur pics, i have nines pipe all together,, and plenty of fittings. Will theese kits fit with the stock turbo,?

hondahater 11-17-04 03:52 PM

yeah it should work perfect with the stock turbo just depending on what you have you may need to turn your turbo compressor housing 200*. Also I had nothing I had to cut it just fit right in with no problems.

skatingsamurai 11-17-04 04:25 PM

how much does the old school trust intercooler usually run? i was thinking of investing in one

hondahater 11-17-04 04:47 PM

anywhere from 3 to 600 bucks depending on wether or not it has all the piping and what condition the intercooler is in. Not a bad investment however for about 400 more you can get a big greddy kit.
