installed new battery cables, now i get no electrical power

This probably seems like a simple problem, so maybe I am over looking something obvious.

I installed new positive and negative battery cables. The positive goes to from the battery, to the starter. It also has a smaller wire that branches off to the main 80amp fuse in the engine fuse box, and also to the top of the alternator.

The negative goes from the negative side of the battery to the engine block where the long nut and bolt go through the starter, tranny, and engine. The negative cable is against the engine block.

Nothing gets power. Nothing in the car, none of the lights, or anything. The battery is charged. I also hooked the charger to the battery and set it to jump start mode and the car doesn't get any power.

Any ideas as to what I need to change or may have forgot to hook up?

maybe you just hooked them up backwards? and also what about the b+ terminal to the alternator?

the ground needs to go to the car body as well.

although you should be able to get some power with it only to the engine. but not enough to start it.

check all your fuses.

I didn't hook the battery cables up backwards to the battery. Thanks for the responses. Its weird that I get no power to anything. The head lights don't work, the lights that come on when the doors are open, nothing. That stuff should work even without the key in the ignition.

I don't have a ground going anywhere except the engine block. I'm hooking one up to the chassis right now, then I'll check all the fuses with an ohm meter if it doesn't work after that.

I remember there being also a ground on the fuse block panel, It's the hole on it towards the driver's tire. A wire with one of those hollow ring connectors is screwed down there.

no, he just didn't have a chassis ground. most everything is grounded to the chassis. glad all is up and well.
