Installed block off plates rough idle..

Installed block off plates on my 89 t2 with a friend. He told me I didn't have to put a gasket on the split air pipe. I looked at him weird and said okay. Started car up didnt idle at all fired up then died. I said I'm going to use rtv. used some and idles okay just a lil rough runs fine just rough. So should I adjust the tps or is there a vac leak? I capped off those 3 lines from the acv or is there some more I forgot?

For posterity...

If you deleted the ACV, you need to seal off the split air pipe. The reverse is true if you keep the ACV and delete the cat, meaning, you need to leave the split air pipe open when keeping the ACV.

To the OP...

Good, deleted the ACV and sealed the split air pipe. You may still have a vacuum leak where you installed a block off plate. Carb cleaner works well to test for this, but is flammable so be careful. Just to be clear, you capped off the other side of where those lines where running to right?

You may also want to adjust the idle screw at this point just to be sure, and be sure to jumper the check connector when you do this.

As far as the TPS, I'd check it with the LED methos. Many will come here and say I am wrong and mazda is wrong, but I prefer the $10 radio shack LED method more than the multimeter method. If you need or want more information on the radioshack LED method, let me know.

Yes I did cap off those 3 vac lines. Okay I'll check for leaks and I'll check the tps. Might be a few days when I check back it's been raining for days and won't stop to Sunday apparently.
