Ok guys here's the deal. This is kind of convaluted...but I need some suggestions.

Ok I bought a 1990 RX-7 Turbo II from a friends in Feb 2002. My friend purchased it from a individual on 4-18-2001. My friend never got the car Registered or completly transfered over in his name. Now the reason for this is because the engine was blown and he didn't have any money. So thats why he sold the car to me. It was sitting around almost a year.

Ok so today I go to the local Tax office place to get the car registered. Come to find out that when the title was handed over to my friend, the owners wife signed the title instead of him. So thats error number 1. Since the car is in the owner and his wife's name it requires his signature. The second this that is missing is a paper that requires this guys signature stating how much he sold the car for and what not. Now my friend can't get ahold of this person to sign it over to him. The thing that sux about this is that it must first be signed over to my friend who then will get a new copy of the title, then we must do the same thing above.

What do you guys think I should do? I mean I got the car out of the shop last thursday its running beautifully, got it inspected yesterday and have insurance on it.

Please post your idea's here or PM me. I don't want to have this car sitting around for another month. Its running great and needs the engine to be broken in

Ok first suggestion is to pretend I am the orignal owner by signing it hehe. This sounds kind of dangerous...

If by any chace you get ahold of the person, make him say that you are the original buyer, and not your friend (a $20 should should convince him).

I don't know in your state, but there are small bussines that do all the work for you for like $250.

Here's the deal. I bought a turboii with a burnt up engine. PD fire. Allstate originaly sold it as a salvage vehicle to a guy. That guy failed at his attempt to fix the engine. He sold it to me. I fixed the engine. Went to get the title. Turns out the guy that sold it to me never had the title put in his name, therefore no right to sell it to me. Tax office didn't wanna hear my wimpering and whining. Couldn't find the guy that sold it to me. Went back to the tax office(TEXAS) and they explained to me that there is a court that you can go to , with all your documentation, and beg them to transfer the title to you. The lady assured me they would probably give me one. Well I procrastinated for a month or so, and then realized I had failed to get one of the forms from the tax office that the lady said I would need to fill out for this COURT. Long story a little shorter, there was a different lady there this time and not a lot of people around, and after I explained things she let it slide and filled out the registration and gave me a title. I'm saying that in TEXAS there is a court you can plead before and get a good title, if you cannot find the original owner. Thats the bottom line. I'll never buy a car without a perfect title again. 1500 buck in a rebuilt engine and no title is no fun atall.

Hailers your situation is very close to mine....

Haha funny thing is I had kind of the same thing happen to me yesterday when getting the RX7 inspected....first shop took one look at my tinted windows tested them and told me straight up that I would fail...good thing I didn't pay for it already.

So I drive around pissed off that I have to get my windows retinted....Well I figure I might as well try a different shop. Walked it and mentioned that my tinted windows maybe to dark. Guy said not to worry about it and passed me. Told me that if I got pulled over that I got the windows tinted after I got the car inspected.

Now If only I could catch a break with the registration....looks like I may have to take the first suggestion...heck the original guy got his money and intented to do it right...but as you know since his wife signed it its not toally legal....so I figure to heck with it.

Any idea of what courthouse I can go to to beg and get the title? I wonder if they are weird about the way people look. I have dreadlocks and sometimes people give me a hard time for this.

i remember when i 1st started lookin for a TII to buy. i found this 87 w/rebuild, front bumper, rims, 90 tail lights. sweet ride! i was all pumped up on getting it. went to take him the money and thats when he hit me with i dont have the title. he had to get it from some car shop who kept the title until he paid off his debt. so i found my baby instead. worked out pretty good in my case cause the car i got is better! just some advice for you guys just getting into buying a car! ALWAYS ASK FOR THE TITLE 1ST AND MAKE SURE ITS CLEAN!
