NC injector replacement instructions

The injectors on my 88 vert seem to leak making for hard warm starts (the old flooding issue), compression seems to be ok, so I guess I need to replace the old injectors (motor has over 100K on it).

Does anybody have simple injector replacement instructions?

thanks

Get a couple pairs of these.

These work great too.

That way, you won't have to drain the coolant. If I remember correctly, removing the alternator makes life so much better (it's easy to remove anyways). You'll need to remove all the bolts holding the UIM to the LIM, and any wiring/hoses in the way. Pop off the throttle cable too. Once it's off, it'll be pretty self explanatory how to remove and replace the injectors. Just make sure you get some new o-rings and grommets to install them to prevent any fuel leaks.

There's also a trick that Hailers figured out about fixing hot start issues. I think it involved removing pin 3b from the ecu and wrapping the wire in tape.

You could also try hooking up a fuel pressure gauge and pinching off the supply and return with the fuel pump running. Once you've pinched them off, stop the fuel pump and see if the injectors are bleeding pressure. That way you don't go replacing injectors for no reason.

You could also just try and send them out to be cleaned instead of replacing them. I used witchhunter.com

Anytime you remove the UIM, ALWAYS have extra UIM to LIM gaskets. They rarely come off in one piece....

There are ways of replacing the injectors without removing a ton of stuff that most shop manuals say to remove. It's more a matter of getting stuff out of the way enough to get to the rails. Just take your time, and be sure to re-attach any vacuum lines you pull off.

^^^if you are not familar with pulling the UIM, make sure to label where each vac line goes. there are a lot of them if you still have the whole rats nest, and it will make things so much easier if you just take the time at the beginning of the job.

A big plus one on this one. I think it cost me $82 (dropped off) when I did mine in sept.

You don't need to drain the coolent, but you will have some spillage, not bad though.

Its not that hard to do. I was scared shitless the first time I pulled mine. Now, its no problem at all.

Two things to really help.
1. Get a new gasket for the UIM to LIM they are pretty cheap and like what was commented above, yours probably won't come off in one peice.
2. Buy a new Throttel Body to engine "block" hose. Also pretty cheap and who knows how long yours has been on there. This hose is my single most hated part on my car. The first time I pulled it (160k miles) it took me forever to remove. If you can;t get it off in a few mins. just cut it. The new one will go on easier and come off way beter if you need to do this again in the future.

Don't forget to Depressurize the fuel system. Other wise you WILL have gas spray all over. And make sure to test them befor you bolt the Upper back on.
