Injector Imp. question 87 n/a

i am trying to ohm out my injectors right now...What i have is an 87n/a fc with the 460 redtops i beleive. I read in the FSM that they are high imp. ( 12-16 ohms) and read a few threads on here about them being low imp. They have redtops and the prod date on vehicle is 10/86. I checked the resistance on my secondary injectors and I was getting 2.8 ohms on both injectors which is leading me to low imp. I am still working on tearing of the intake to get down to primaries. Should i be looking for the highs or lows?

thanks

The last half of 87 cars got high impedence.

IF you look at this picute attached, and then find no such thing below your afm/airfilter assy, then you have high. IF you find an object like the one in the jpg attached, you get low. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...d/100_3608.jpg

Pay no attention to the words on the jpg. This solnenoid resistor package is bolted to the inner fender below the afm/airfilte assy on low impedence cars.

Here's a jpg I found on this site, with it located about a foot higher than the original location.

Here's some words I wrote back in '03:

Your car is a 87 and it's a non-turbo. So your car should get one of two choices depending on the chassis number. IF your chassis is below JMIFC331 H0500001 550199 then you get low impedence injectors of approx 2.2 ohms, part nunber 195500-1350

If the chassis number is above the one listed above....you get high impedence injectors of approx 12 ohms.

So go look at your chassis number........on look and see if your car has a solenoid resistor located on the fender below the air filter assy. It's silver in color, approx four inches long, one and a half inches wide. Held down with two ten mm size nuts. Free online factory service manual at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com unfortunatly they don't have a 87 manual (best of the RX series cars) so you can't see an illustration of the solenoid resistor there. That item can be seen here: https://www.rx7club.com/forum/attachm...postid=1320242 God willing the site will support that jpg.

much appreciated I identified the resistor and resistance tested that( in spec) but I deffinatly have the low imp. injectors....im just happy i know my secondaries are looking ok, could stand to be cleaned however......I don't know if you guys have ever heard of this but i had an ole 87 conquest and those were real bad on injectors clogging....so what i did was take an old injector clip and solder the wires to a 9v battery, clamp a hose on the end of the injector, fill the hose ( about 1.5 feet long) with some fuel injection cleaner, attach the soldered 9v/clip and you will hear the inj click open and then i used my air compressor to blow the cleaner through at a regulated 30-35 psi ( make sure not to go over factory recommended pressure or you will burn the guts of the injector by high pressure dry air) , worked everytime. Anyone here heard of this?

Yeah. It's been done. It's recommended to insert a six ohm resistor b/t the power source and the injector so they don't overheat the coil.

I've tee'd off the fuel line b/t the filter and the engine with a single hose. Clamped the hose to the top of the injector. Ran two wires, pos and neg to the injector clip, and applied power for fifteen seconds. Captured the fuel in a measuring cup and compared the results with the FSM figures.

Several years ago I did something similar, but ran almost straight fuel injector cleaner thru the injector/s several times. Kept me out of the bars and off the streets if nothing else.

You guys know that feeling you get when you catch the culprit? Culprit found..

problem...#1 rotor no combustion going on , extreme lack of power, rough/erratic idle, basically the 7 was turned into an underpowered go-cart.

Solution( pics coming) -Combination of..both primary and secondary injector clips FUBAR, vaccum lines below manifold are harder than pvc, dirty intank fuel filter, and the little grids inside the manifolds that help atomize the fuel RUSTed shut. From the looks of this someone has torn down to the primary rail before, the primary injector with the connector glued to it gave that away, and the #1 rotor primary was plugged it but filled with glue and shattered as i cried all over it haha

hope some of these problems i found help some people out...car sat for 1 year before i got into it and im the 3rd owner

i am so fuggin happy right now
