Inconsistent

87' TII

Anyone know why my car only wants to run fast when it wants to...?? its done it since the day ive had.

Sumtimes it will get up and boogy other times it wont...?

went to the track before and my tiems were

16.4
14.5
15.8

And i know for a fact it wasnt my driving that caused this...Also it boosts the exact samme so I know it doesnt have to do with boost or the turbo.

Can you post the 60', half track, and trap speeds for those runs?

they werent givin those times out that day :-\... but when it wants I can feel the car really pull hard because the rev is much faster and I go through the gears much quicker...then most the time it doesnt drive half as fast as it should example. 15.8 1/4 mile.

usually has to do with a number of things like bad grounds, old worn out spark plugs, faulty or misadjusted TPS, vacuum leaks, cats getting old and plugged up etc. etc. etc.. the car is just telling you it needs some attention to perform how it should with consistency.

e.t. isn't really a good way to judge what exactly is wrong with a car.

especially considering the whole human error factor. Even though you say it wasn't driver error, there are PROFESSIONAL drag racers who hone their skills and setups for years and years and hundreds of thousands of dollars all just to run a consistent time. I really doubt that you've got even close to the amount of time and money invested in perfecting your skill to presume that you are on the same level.

Tell us what the car's doing during driving conditions, at what rpm's the faults happen, what you've done to the car thus far in attempts to correct, and what you have or have not replaced on the car from the time you bought it. That'll give us a good idea of whats wrong.

2 seconds is a lot of time though, yes it is a rather rough way to estimate a problem and it may very well not even be the car but the conditions. the stock ECU is not very forgiving to small changes above a point, intake temps from heat soak can reduce the timing enough to notice a bit of a difference in power but at the same boost level. what you can do is pack the IC in ice between runs or spray it with water/alchy before a run to help it cool quicker and see if that helps.

True, but half of that may even be reaction time, he's only giving e.t.

I'd still just like to know exactly what the car's doing i.e. bucking, surging, flat spots on the power band....as opposed to just some random e.t.'s

720 secondaries,255 walbro, rtek 1.7,ported wastegate, safc, blitz boostcontroller, 3" turbo back few other lil mods. And no it DEF. wasnt my driving on the road my friends in the car can feel and tell a diffrence. SOmetimes it will scream through the gears other tiems its just slow doesnt realy spudder or anyhting and im not sure around what rpm it happens but its just not half as fast. And its boosting the exact same amount so the turbo / boost can be ruled out. My engine is about to be rebuilt soon so I guess after thats done and its broken in I can see if its still doing it.

internal engine problems do not come and go, if you are thinking a rebuild will fix it then forget about it.

with those mods you should be able to pull out mid to high 13's with the added boost, no idea what is wrong but something doesn't sound right and my suggestions are what i would start going over if you really are as competent of a driver as you say you are.

well....I say get a WB02.....its something you'll probably want evetually anyways.

With it installed go out and make some passes and carefully keep an eye on it. The AFR will give you a *decent* indication of whats going on.....

Other than that - have you done any regular maintenance items like plugs/wires? fuel filter? etc?

well i sure would hope he has used a WBO2 on it with the SAFC on there, too many people guessing at numbers but a wideband still won't really tell you what the timing is doing, that is where an EGT comes in.

yeah for sure!!

but Im figuring by the sounds of it he's having fuel delivery issues and a wideband (since he hasn't listed one as something thats on the car) will be able to tell him whether its havign the fuel cut back...or whether its being dumped in. Then he shuold be able to diagnose from there, be it sticky primaries, bad or loose injector clips or what have you.
