Inconsistent exhaust sound?

As I have said, I have just purchased an FB. Under idle, the car sounds inconsistent when compared to the FD. I hear thrud thrud..thrud thrud...(engine sound) and sometimes sounds if its going to shut down. The tachometer still doesn't work after changing the plugs as told. Kind of hard to observe what's going on when it doesn't work. What may be the problems causing the tach not to work? What are the ways it can be fixed? Is the engine sound normal and different from 13Bs? Thanks in advance, this car is worrying me more than my FD.

The best I can do without actually hearing the car is about the tach. My suggestion would be to either purchase an aftermarket tach and install it or get ready to pull your instrument cluster and check the wiring.

A tach in the carbed FB works just like an aftermarket tach. Theres a ground, signal, and power. One of these must be connected poorly. You'll have to pull out a manual to get the colors down right but what I would suggest is to run all new wiring to it. Run the power from your fuse box, signal from the trailing coil, and ground it to the dash frame. If it doesn't work then your tach is fubared and you should get another guage cluster.

Also, where do you live? Have you thought about posting in the regional forums to see if you can get a more experienced FBer there to help you out?
