The narrow band a/f gauge is worth doing, lets you monitor it at least and that's important. If you have an S5 I would get a water temp gauge as the last one.

If he has a turbo I'd say boost, a/f and water temp or oil temp. Better yet put oil temp, water temp and oil pressure in the pod and mount a boost gauge and a/f gauge somewhere else.

what about the stock guage for the water temp and oil pressure? my vote air fuel boost and oil temp guages if you must have a third. almost forgot voltage

If he has a series 5 turbo the water temp gauge is worthless, it's off/on/too late for the most part. S4 gauges are suppose to be a little better on water and oil. Boost on either I wouldn't trust. Get a turbo timer, it shows voltage, as least mine can. Anyway you look at it, if it's a turbo you really should get a boost, a/f, water temp, oil pressure. Others I would think you should consider are oil temp and a turbo timer.

narrow band Air fuel is garbage in my opinion as its such a small range 14.7 or lean or rich.
So i would save my money.

If your stock ECU i would go:

Boost
Oil temp
Water temp

EGT is very important but with stock ecu you cant really do anything .

If you have some kind of controllable ecu

then

EGT
BOOST
water temp
oil temp

IAT

Boost, Wide band O2 sensor, EGT, Fuel pressure, oil pressure, water temp. Importance in that order. some mihgt argue water temp should be before EGT, but EGT you will see a change in temp faster than water temp. Wideband O2 sensor and fuel pressure is very important for
