Importance of the oil cooler
Hello,
I have a broken line that runs from the front of the engine to the oil cooler that is located in front of the radiator.
My question is to the importance of the cooler? Can I just loop it off or does it need to be in place and working?
Second question; Does anybody know where I can get a synchronizer for 3rd gear in a 5spd manual trans?
Thanks in advance.

To cool the oil.... hmm... looks like the radiator cools the coolant and the coolant then cools the engine...
I wonder why the oil is cooled.....
Sorry to be an ***, but it just sounds like a stupid question.

Mazda has estimated the oil (and oil cooler) supplies ONE THIRD of the cooling of the engine.  There's a reason why the car has one of the BIGGEST oil coolers in the industry.  Trying to get cheap by bypassing the stock oil cooler is going to kill your motor...

Yeah, a lot of the fluid the rotary engine uses is oil, Most cars today like a honda of comparable displacement uses just over 3 quarts (for a 1.5L), while the rotary uses 6 (for a 1.3L if I remember correctly). Its just to help cool the engine by way of cooling both the oil and coolant. Something like that.
