im goin stand alone need a bit of help

I'm going to remove the stock ecu on my s5 and go to an e6x
but need a bit of help on where some of the weirs go


what is in the bunches that i would need to keep
the red is ???

is the green to engine and I'm removing all of it ?

is the blue for others like turn and head lights ?

Unplug them, remove the ECU.

The harness on the right is your engine harness. Take it out. The wiper harness runs in WITH the engine harness (they can be separated easily, just cut open the main harness) so you can still keep your wipers.

All the info you need on the stock wiring is in the FSM wiring diagrams. You should be be studying them when doing an EMS install.

Thanks for the help but, I just spent 4 hours looking at the FSM and all I found was lots of info but not all the information I need. Which way do the red and blue bundles go, I know they go behind the dash, but then where? So that I can remove them without breaking stuff.

As for info on what I'm doing, I'm going to a seven inch camden super charger and an e6x with an autonomics tb.

Wiring diagrams? Those showing where each and every wire in the car go from point to point????? And show each and every conenctor and whether they are in the FRONT, EMISSIONS, ENGINE, INSTRUMENT PANEL, REAR, METER, STORAGE, ABS, INTERIOR CLUSTER DOORS, A/C etc??????

just to be an *******.......the harness to the right is the Emissions harness with the two plugs going to the ECU. The ones you describe as Blue and Red are part of the FRONT harness.

IN the wiring diagrams, next to each wire color there is a harness designation. An example would be Br (EM) indicating a brown wire in the Emissions harness.

In the front of the wiring diagrams they show where each harness is in the car and what the harnesses are called. Such as showing the engine harness on the left side of the engine AREA and how it feeds the coils etc.

But on this forum we like to call Fred, Sam. So we call it the Engine harness on the right side of the engine bay for this group and the Whatever harness on the left side of the engine bay.

Personally, "I just wanna RIDE!"

The two chapters you need to be studying are the Wiring Diagrams and the Fuel & Emissions Systems. In the Fuel chapter there's a chart that shows you what every pin on the stock ECU does. The pin numbers indicate which plug is which; 1, 2 and 3. Plugs 1 and 2 (the red circle) are on the Emissions (EM) harness, which is the only wiring that gets removed. Plug 3 (the green circle) goes to the front (F) harness and does not get removed. Just leave it alone.

If you're doing this yourself, you really need to be confident reading and understanding both these chapters, especially the wiring diagrams.

There's a small problem when it comes to the connectors inbetween units. An example are the two very large connectors on the EM harness that connects to the ECU. Not the plugs that actually connect to the ECU, but two large plugs in the footwell, up and to the right of the passengers feet. They mate the Front harness with the EM harness and are called either X-15 or X-16.

I made a word document that explained in a foggy way what each wire in those plugs do in life. I might attach it later.

The rest, you can leave... Most of the functions will be deleted, and its not worth tearing your car apart to remove. Some of the CAS, and coil signals traverse the #1 plug but you can eliminate them by bypassing on the install.

Sorry, I had them reversed because I was thinking of my RHD car. The green circled harness gets removed and replaced with the Haltech harrness, the red and blue (same harness) stay right where they are. Once you pull out the EM harness this woill become clear.

Seriously, all the info you need is shown pretty clearly in the wiring diagrams. Have you seen these?

Bro... not to be a dick, but if you can't figure out what you need to remove when doing a standalone installation, I think you should just send it off to a professional.

It's really nowhere near a plug & play installation. Here's what my haltech install looked like midway through:

Seeing as how no one was born with knowing everything right out of the box.............you gotta learn how by doing.

So get out there and *have at it*. If you don't, you'll never know how to do it and be equivalant one of those kids in the commercial, sitting on a Honda saying "Mister, I just wanna ride".

By the way, I've never done a *Stantalone* but have all the confidence I can do it. I say that confidently because of the posts I've read from people who have stantalones and *seem* to not know squat about RX-7's. Hmmmm, I'm getting to be a real bitch, aren't I.

Well if I wanted an easy install I would of gone with the safcII that was on it when i got it.

I have done a stand alone before, but my buddy did most of the work as it was his car. He used an e11v2 on his 280 z turbo swap and this car is practice before I try to do my rx2 which will be alot like 13b-rx3's rx3.

But anyway, do you know what kind of EMS you are going to be using? If you have a friend whose done the E11v2 on another car, you may want to think of going Haltech, especially if you have a good local tuner. The haltech section on this forum is very good, and the people are very helpful. As long as you can read wiring diagrams, you should be alright. Unless you are going to be extremely modified (E.G. 3-rotor, turbo bigger than your motor, custom manifolds, etc) I would go with an E6k/x or an E8. Especially since you have a friend familiar with them.

Good luck with the install, if you need anything feel free to PM me and maybe I can help... but definitely read up in the Haltech section if you decide to go that route. Also check out the Hitman's site.

I pulled speedmonkey's engine harness out the other day for a standalone install. The easy way to figure it all out is to disconnect everything in the engine bay that pertains to the engine. Pull this harness through the firewall. As has already been mentioned you need to separate the wires to the windshield wiper motor from the rest of the harness. Just start unwrapping the tape at this point. This is all very easy so don't let it seem discouraging. You actually don't need to remove any other wires at this point. Now run your new harness from where you are going to mount the ecu through the firewall and run the wires where you need them. After you get the ecu running, then go back and slowly figure out which ones can come out.
