I'm a Car Term n00b

Ok. I basically know how cars (anRX-7's) work. I've only been working on them for a few years, so I'm not really up witht he terms you guys use. I had an 86 626 all last year before it died at 250,000 miles. I went out in December and bought a 7.

"Cats" - I know you're not talking about kitties. What is this short for?

"FC" - Also a term that is thrown around a lot. I have no clue what it means.

If there are any others that you think I might not know, please, feel free to throw them out.

I'm also assuming "N/A" means non-turbo?

Thx

cats=catalytic converters
FC=chassis designation for 86-91 (all VIN #'s start with JM1FC3, JM1 just means made in Japan...)
N/A=Naturally aspirated, yes, no turbo involved!

Welcome to the bunch of apples...don't let a few bad ones spoil the image...

Here are a few more:
ECU = Engine Control Unit. (fires the injectors, pulses the BAC, times the spark & other stuff)
TPS = Throttle Position Sensor. (tells ECU when you should be idling.
BAC = Bypass Air Control. (variable idle air bleed keeps you from stalling)

Here's a site you should bookmark.
fc3s.org
Click on "How-To's"
They have tons of good info - including the entire FSM (Factory Service Manuals) - free on-line!

To be entirely correct, it means made in Japan by Mazda.
