Illuminas vs. Koni Yellows?
Illuminas vs. Koni Yellows?
I know the Koni's are better but are they worth the extra money if i'm a pretty poor guy? lol. Anyone who has ridden with both and has experience with both sets?
i dont have input on the yellows but i have read up many comparisons between the illuminas and the KYB agx shocks. Just something that may help you judge in what may be best for you -alex
I love my Yellows. Have had them for close to four years now. I have them with the RB suspension package.
Here is my write up.

If you just have a street car, any adjustable is overkill.
The Tokico Illuminas have 5 detent settings.
The Koni Race (yellows) have a continuously variable adjustment which is 2 full turns lock-to-lock.
Unfortunately, both dampers have adjustments at the top of the shaft.
For the fronts, this is not a problem, but if you like your stock rear speakers, this might be a problem.
An alternative is the KYB AGX's.
4-way adjustment front and 8-way adjustment rears
The fronts are top adjustable, but the rears are bottom adjustable.
This allows you to keep your stock rear speakers intact.
The Koni Race dampers are desgined for hard-core racers.
They have the widest damping adjustment out of any of the abovementioned brand.
They can be rebuildable.
They are overkill for a street vehicle.

You cannot go wrong with any of them.
I prefer the KYB AGX's over the Tokico's due to the wider damping range, and K2RD has put them through race-track abuse without failure.

A "race vehicle" would almost be a trailer queen, although you can easily drive it around to events.
It would be a dedicated race vehicle or a top-tier SCCA atuocross competitor (i.e. consistent Nationals qualifier).
If you do racing "for fun", the Tokico or KYB AGX is fine.
If you do racing "to WIN", go with the Koni's.
You can get the Koni's converted to double-adjustable, which would give you more flexibility on adjustment.
