S4/S5 shifter?

how do i know if my shifter is an S4 or S5? i know they r different hence y the trigger-looking **** of the S5 doesnt fit an S4....as ive been told.

i did a tranny swap and i forgot to ask the guy who did it and he's out getting married...lol...so i cant ask him right now.

i also plan on buying a short shifter kit. just out of curiousity, will an S4 shifter fit in an S5 tranny and vice versa......?

The only difference between the S4 and S5 versions of the shift lever, is that the S4 uses a larger/wider thread for shift ***** and the S5 is slightly taller and uses the same thread as all the other post 90 Mazda product.

The lower part of the FC lever and the mounting of the FC lever is the same regardless of model or year

You can't really tell by looking at the shift ****.
If you are talking about the shifter LEVER, the S5 has a plastic insert in the groove - if you take it apart, you'll understand.

Yes, the levers all swap over if you want - like Icemark said, the threads are different.

A short shifter fits all FC's, with the exception of the threads.
