Question ignition upgrades whats up wit dat

whats up people i had a question some off yall could answer . right now i am running a 13b re in my 88 tII every thing on it is upgraded but the ignition some people say that the stock coils are good enough. But people this car puts down roughly 350 hp to the ground.so i figured the oem coils are not enough for my app.so i was wondering if i could get some input from people who upgraded there coils and if it was worth it as far as overal performance.and what kind wires do u guys recomend.

I'm sure the coils have more than enough oomph for your setup. However, you may find that you have better response by adding an MSD ignition.

I second. msd 6a or crane cams hi-6 would do you good. Better gas mileage too. And you'll only need one, that is, for the leading. No need to get one for the trailing.

I dont mean to hijackthis, but it says that its only covering the leading spark. is the any reason why not to do this for trailing spark as well? or is there just not much of a gain?

What kinda of stand-alone EMS are you running?
If you can adjust dwell time on the coil charge, this will help tremedously get a lot more out of the stock coils.

Else, CDI boxes on the stock coils does wonders.

If you insist on upgrading coils, check out the MSD HVC line of coils.
$100+ per is not cheap!

BTW, you only do the leadings cause 1) it's cheaper, and 2) the leadings do most of the work...

Ted: what's a good recommended dwell on the stock ignition, everybody seems to suggest right around 3ms

On Haltechs, we'll push them up to 4.5ms to 5.0ms.
Absolute max would be 5.5ms, but you really don't need to do this unless you get misfire.
If you get the car on the dyno, you can play around with the dwell time to see if it makes more power.
If you start to push over 5.0ms, check the heat coming off the coils to make sure they are not overheating!
The coils should not get hot enough to burn your hand!

Thanks, another thing to jot down in my notes. Trying to lift the veil on rotary tuning isn't proving easy...
