Ignition System Problems -need help-out of ideas
The ignition system on my car is not right for some reason and I'm stuck on how to fix it.
So far I have checked:
-CAS resistance by FSM way- its good
-Trailing coil resistance- ~0.9 ohms (FSM says it should be 0.2 - 1.0)
-Leading coil resistances- both about 1.2 ohms (again FSM says they should be 0.2 - 1.0)
-Both Leading and Trailing coils have 12v at the connnectors
-checked continuity and resistance of all 4 wires that are listed in the FSM going from ECU to coils ( i think they are all signal wires or something), they checked out good
Plug wires are new, Plugs are new
But still no spark. (by putting screwdriver in plug boot and holding very close to a ground)
Car floods badly whenever trying to start.
Problem seems to come and go somewhat (mostly come), because the car ran a few days ago and I have checked for spark several times and sometimes I will find it. Things are all wired correctly and everything.
So basically my questions are:
Can coil actually be bad even if the resistance checks out OK?
Am I missing anything? If so, what else should I be looking for.
Should I just set my car on fire?
Thank you for any help or ideas you can give me
mike

no way for me to check them, I dont know how on this year car. It was easy w/ my 89 but this is an 87TII. Also the "meter" circuit has a short so I cant put a fuse in there, so no warning lights.
Nobody else? I think I'll be able to swap out the coils soon w/ another car and see what happens.

You'll need to have 2 positive and 1 ground. Connect 2 wires to a male spade together so you have 1 ground and the other 2 male spade to each wire. When done, you should have 2 positive male spade and 1 ground male spade. I'll have to look for the site that has the codes. I knew someone was going to need it sometime.
I hope the error codes will source out your problem .
I *thought * it was your clutch switch but remembered it would crank so that eliminates that. That cuts off juice to the starter.
By the way, you don't have to start the car to check the codes. Just need key in the "on" position. After you source it out (hopefully you will find it) disconnect the negative battery for about 10 minutes to re-set the ECU and that will erase any codes .

Are you EGI fuses good? Any blown? Sure you have power there? An easier way to check for spark without being in the car is to take the CAS out, turn the key on
and spin the cas, this will make the coils fire.

Well, it's slow at work so I went searching.
Here's the site that has all the information you need.
http://home.earthlink.net/~msemmes/R...ctor%20Chapter
Don't worry about all the technical terms. It's easier than you think
Hope this helps.

87 models don't store codes. Thought you had spark due to this statement you made:
*because the car ran a few days ago and I have checked for spark several times and sometimes I will find it*
