ignition review

i put a mallory hyfire 6AL on my car. it was easy to install, and i have seen a MPG increase of about 1-3 MPG. powerwise i cant really tell much of a difference except maybe a lil cleaner on top. but in the top of 3rd gear i can really tell a difference, it seems like it gets to 100 mph faster now. overall, i believe it was a great mod.

Did you measure that or is it a guess? Assuming you had average mileage before, that's a gain of 5-15%, which is huge considering the stock ignition system is already very strong. To get that sort of improvement I'd expect you to have fixed something broken...

Cost in dollars and labor time? Is your car an N/A? How consistent is your route for when measuring mileage? Is it mostly highway or city? Do you plan on getting any empirical data or just leave it at it feels better?

for the past year the best i could get was 22.5 mpg. after the ignition and NOTHING else i have been getting 23-25 (25.5 last tank). i measure my mileage at every fill up,and i do a mix between city/highway/spirited driving. i usually got around 330 miles to a tank before i filled up. now i wait til <350

330??!!!!!!!!!

I only get 190 on my TII!!!!

Of course, I just took my injectors out, and the rubber looked AWEFUL! I hope to see a VAST improvement in milage after I get them back.

Any other reasons I may be getting such crappy milage compared to this dude?

To get a 5-15% reduction in fuel consumption you would have to have been injecting and not burning all that fuel you're now apparently saving. That's a lot of fuel that was previously going straight out the exhaust unburnt...

I'm not saying you're posting bogus numbers, I just wonder if you inadvertantly fixed something when installing the unit. All it does is make a stronger spark, and this can only be beneficial if the spark wasn't strong enough to ignite all the mixture previously. That's not the case with the stock ignition system in good condition.
