ignition problem?

I was wondering if anybody ran into a situation where when checking the timing, you get a good timing reading on the L1 coil, but the timing mark doesn't even appear when the timing is checked on L2? The light flashes, but the mark cannot be seen! Is the CAS off or something, as I thought L1 and L2 give the same timing readings? Any help will be appreciated.

Can't happen. L1 and L2 are two ends of the same coil. If one fires, so must the other. Sure you're not on trailing?

I am definetly on L2, I even turned the clamp pickup of the timing light around on the wire, and it is the same! L1 shows the timing on the mark, but I can't even see the timing mark with L2!

Tried changing wires? Although honestly, there's no reason to check timing using L2. Just connect it to L1, time, and be happy. As mentioned, they're the same coil and fire at the same time.

I am trying to chase down a light running problem. The engine is rough between 1000-3000rpm, after that it gets smooth, there is alos a slight missfire at idle, so far all sensors/tune-up items look good!

Timing lights are not the proper way to check for spark. For that, you need a spark tester.

Vacuum leaks?

There is absolutely no vacuum leaks, the plugs and wires are new as well as o2 sensor. I was not checking for spark, I was just making sure the timing was right. The car has 18 inch of vacuum at idle, and has lots of power, it just vibrates a little bit, and is hard on gas.

Not yet, and that's what I'm leaning to as the car sat for about a year, and was only started once in a while.
