Next time you'll find it easier to just remove the three bolts that hold that bracket on, than mess with that spacer and long bolt.

I literally just removed that an hour ago. The second picture is how it was put together on my parts car. YMMV though, as I'm not sure if the original owner changed it.

it goes to the rear of the bracket. its just a spacer to offset the pump forward so that the belt lines up with the pullys and it serves as a brace when tightening the long air pump belt so that you dont snap one of the ears off of the pump.

Pound the sliding adjuster thing back into the air pump towards the pully side.
then your spacer will fit on the back.

The bolt head side, the anodized bushing looking thing pushed into the aluminum.

Goes on the rear. It takes some tapping to get it back in. Stick the spacer in the freezer and get it nice and cold. It will contract enough to slide right in.

Read what I said again.

Spacer goes on rear, pound the sliding spacer in the front airpump housing towards the pully. It moves, thats why your all dorked up now, you must have bumped it and threw off your spacing.

The belt only lines up with the air pump with that spacer in the correct position so it should be very easy through simple trial and error to figure it out.

Holy crap, you really must not read what I said at all.

the effin horse shoe thing goes wherever the @!#$!#$% it makes sense in relation to the belt. prolly the back.

What Im trying to say here is the front of the two places the bolt slides throught
on the air pump has a bushing in it that effin slides.

Hit the !@#R!EFing thing with a @#RR!#@R hammer and bobs your uncle.

if you cant sort it out from my 3 posts I really feal sorry for ya

Seriously though. Just tap it into the rear gap. If the gap is too small find some basic washers and stick 3-4 of them in there.

Does no one else actually have an air pump? It goes just like you have it in the first pic. It should be obvious if you line up the air pump pulley with the water pump pulley that it can't possibly work on the opposite side (pic 2).

Be careful with this.. If you get the spacing off you will eat through belts.

Code:

That's the answer.
Take a look behind the stripped bolt head as the spacer is on the front side:

In the future, you will find that if you remove the three bracket attach bolts instead of the single, long bolt with the spacer, that your life will be SO MUCH EASIER. No more fiddle ******* around with a recalcitant spacer and no more problems trying to catch the threads of that long bolt i.e. no cross threading problems.
