Lightbulb Idling Problem Conquered!

All it took was a TON of anger and my dads friend (speed shop Owner) to fix my idling.

When i brought my car to "bruces speed shop" they immediately knew the problem. I have tried various places and have wasted my money but since this guy builds race cars - i figured i would give him a try.

He went in and found 2 switches that tell the car how much fuel it needs. If this goes bad - the car wont receive enough fuel and you can get 2 very annoying problems -

-Idle Fluxuates and can stall out if really bad
-Car sometimes wont start

Unfortunately the Mazda company raped me $344 for this part thats not even bigger than my hand, but now that my idle is fixed i can start doing other stuff to the car. Does anyone have any suggestions on what i should do next to make my 1989 GTU (non-turbo) faster? I want to gear my car up to race some kid in an EAGLE TALON. the little bastard keeps talkin bout how fast his car is and i will shut him up but not b4 i do some work

Anyways - thanx for your help.

sorry for the late reply - as to your question bout the switches -

I wasn't right infront of the guy when he did it but i'm guessing it's on the throttle body. It's a plastic piece (black) on an 89 gtu - and it has wires comming out of it with a little plug (i think).

I get my car back today so i'll ask the mechanic what the part is called and where it is located and then i'll post a reply and give u all the info.

Well.... today i went to pick up the car - NOT DONE YET!

The part didn't come in on time from mazda so i'll have to pick it up tomorrow. Once i goto pay him - i'll get all the information you guys need about this part.

It's not the screw. W/e you guys do - DO NOT touch the throttle adjustment screw or the sensors. When i brought him the car he had asked what other people have touched and i said the screw and sensors - he told me it just made things worse. You can't adjust the screw without adjusting 1,000,000 other things. It's a real pain in the ***.

But anyways - like i said - i'll get you guys all the information you need once i get my car back.

by any chance - do you know where i can find hose sleeving kits in a metallic blue color? I'd appreciate it.

i got good news and bad news -

Good news is - i got my car back and when i got in it - it idled PERFECT!

Bad news is - when i was driving and i hit the brake and came to a complete stop - it started to dip real low again and when i got home - i put it in park and then reverse and then park and then drive and it dipped everytime!

Erik - you were right - the part is called the Throttle Position Sensor. It's located right on the throttle body.

Well.... I hope i helped you guys out some... the part alone is $344 not including labor. What it does is - let the car know how much gas is needed and when. If it's not working - it could be why the car stalls or idles bad.

Like i said b4 - if u live in NJ - shoot me an email - Tempis_2000@yahoo.com
