Question idle'ing wrong..i think...

so i have an '87 fc gxl.....when i first start the key it idles at about 1200rpm's about....now i've been told that these cars normal idle speed should be around 200. after a minute or so it will start to gradually creep dopwn and after about 5min or so of car running just in neutral it hits 200rpm....i also notice that when i rev the engine in neutral and then let go of gas it drops...but doesnt stop it will go to about 100rpm or lower and then sometimes staul.......so can someone PLEASE give me some advice on to whats going on???

200 rpm?

if it's an n/a the Haynes Manual says 750 rpm plus or minus 25 rpm..idle srcew is on top of the throttle body ..variable resistor adjust is right between the air filter box and the strut tower...passenger side..looks like an eye with a screw in it..all I'm pitchin at ya 'cause I don't wanna be blamed for any thing..best bet ...READ ..either threads in this forum or spend $15 bucks and pick up a manual ..you'll be glad you did ..Good Luck...misterstyx69

well if your idle is at 200 rpm (which would prob stall the car btw) you want to turn it CCW to raise the idle a bit

You probably mean 200rpms past the first line on the tach. The tach starts at 500+a hair.

haha yeah....so everybody just disregard half of what i said...it does at idle normal at 750rpm it still kinda does the thing when i rev it up and let go of gas it drops kinda low(200rpm) and i talked to my mechanic dude and said its the idle sensor....so i got back in the car and tried it again and of course it was doing everything just fine...so i dunno...i'll probably check out that idle sensor though just in case, may have to adjust it or something...
