idle, s5 codes, typical stuff

so its finally getting warmer out and im trying to get my rx7 in good working condition. its an 89 gtus. first off it wont idle at all. if its under about 1500 rpm it has troubles staying running. im hoping this is just a vaccuum leak. if so, what is the best way to check for this. ive heard the spraying some flammable stuff around and checking for jumps, im just a little paranoid about this. and my other problem is that if i drive it for a few minutes to get it warmed up then the check engine light comes on and if i give it anywhere close to half throttle it will just die out. i can ease into the high rpms, but if i do it quickly itll just die basically. so how can i pull the codes? and if you have any suggestions to what these problems could be ill be damn happy. this is my dream car, i want to drive it.
