Idle problems? Smoke?

Helo All on my virgin thread.
Anyway, my dad recently drove our newly aquired 1990 Rx7 with 140000 miles and a 67000 mile engine from Tecate Mexico to our home in Ann Arbor Michigan. Obviously, there are no major mechanical issues, but on startup the car appears to smoke significantly (not alot, just significantly) but this goes away once warmed up. This may be condensation since the local temp has been sub-freezing all week, but just wondering. Also, all Rx-7's had a cold start system, and this engine continues to idle at 3K even after warmed-up, so Dad and I are worried. Finally, I have heard people talking about using premix in the gas. Under what circumstances?
Hope someone can help. this is my first car, dad's first rotary, I know how they work, he doesn't. Thanks.

Mine 'smokes' a lot too on start up when the engine is cold and it's freezing outside. I believe that's just what cars do as it doesn't do it any other time.

And you premix if you have no OMP or if you just want to. Just search for premix and you'll get everything you need.

Also there is a screw on top of the engine covered by a black cap on the throttle body that you can adjust the idle with.

it could be that your thermowax is stuck, check to see that nothing is holding the Accelerated Warmup System stuck, keeping the throttle open.

search for "accelerated warmup system" that's what keeps it at 3000rpm for a while. it's an emissions thing that isn't the best for the engine.

Yeah, my dad taught me that acellerating warmup is a bad thing, it causes things to warm up at different rates, it's wearing the engine when the oil isn't at the right viscosity, ect.

Also, since it's 20-30 fahrenheit outside currently, and the car came from Mexico, there was no antifreeze in the coolant. So, needless to say, I acidentally took about 1000 miles off those serpintine belts and now before we want to start it, I go out and put a hairdryer under the hood for a couple hours.

What really sux is that it just snowed about four-six inches overnight, and dad was going to take me to get plates for the thing and somehwere to practice driving stick. (whimper) I'm really starting to hate winter...
