Idle issue

Ok, quick question. I have an 87 TII. Car is stock. I just began my mods. I put 750cc injectors in the secondaries to prep for my Rtek 1.7 that I'm about to get. After putting in the injectors I ran the car to see if anything leaked or I did it right. First off everything was hooked back up the same, I took pictures and labeled. I had to restart the car 5 times cuz it died during warm up. I then kept it running with the gas pedal. It finally ran on its own with a 2k idle. I then took the car for a spin to see if it ran ok and when I returned I had a 1600-2000 traveling idle. My question here is are these problems due to the ecu not being upgraded yet? Or is this something else entirely??

You almost certainly have a vacuum leak. Could be in any of the vacuum lines you removed (if they arent new they could have split, or the new injectors didnt seat and seal correctly, or you didnt use new gaskets when reinstalling the UIM.

Ok, I will start checking for vacuum leaks. I put a new gasket on the uim and I triple checked the injectors to make sure they seated right. There are too many vacuum hoses

the turbo intake duct tends to crack first, it may not have even been cracked until you put it back on the engine.

from what I read no he hasnt, but it should be ok as long as he doesnt get on it, the secondaries dont activate till later in the RPM band, (also uses other inputs for load to determine when secondaries come on)

but like they said definitely sounds like a vacuum leak, how did the injector O-rings look? did you use any grease when you put them in the manifold?

Well I did get on it to see if the car responded the same. It actually didnt hesitate as the secondaries came on. I did not install the rtek yet. I'll be looking for vacuum leaks this week. I've got to take off my top mount to see the vacuum mess though. The o rings were fine, yes I greased them and did the leak check per fsm.

Sent the ecu out to get the rtek install, I'll do some vacuum checks once I get it back. Maybe it'll just fix the idle issue/traveling idle

I have personally had more success finding vacuum leaks with the engine off and pressurizing it at the top of the TID to which Karack referred. Running it and spraying ether isolates an area but is more of an area of effect than a sniper bullet. By pressurizing the systems you can take your time and listen (with a 1/4" hose) and find exactly where it is.

Good luck

Ok quick update:

My air bypass solenoid valve was not plugged in at all and I plugged whatever solenoid that is on the back of the uim into the harness used for the air bypass. I also had the fuel rail pressure regulators vacuum line disconnected. Wow I'm a mess! Anyway, hopefully I'll get my rtek back on Monday. I'll be testin it then...thanks for all the tips so far

Update number 2: got my rtek 1.7 back and installed it today. Car runs great. Transition point is very smooth (used to have the stumble), I installed my boost controller and have it set to 7psi, car pulls slightly better. I don't notice a huge difference but my friend said it feels alot faster. Didn't test the flood control yet.
Only problems I'm having is the car will idle very low and sound like it's going to die till it warms up. And it has that traveling idle still, but it's only every know and then. Kinda confused on that. I drove my friend all day and it idled fine, then I took it to work and traveling idle....
Other than that I love the rtek and can't wait to get a full exhaust to really get the boost up
