Idiot light surround

The S4 and S5 had different idiot light surrounds correct? I bought one from someone on here, and it doesn't fit my 87, so I figure they must have different ones. I looks like I could probably Dremel mine down to fit though. So, what's the deal?

No, not a series thing.

The 86 and 87 models used a rearward facing surround, while the 88-91 used the forward facing with shade lip.

If it was a series thing, the 86-88 would be the same.

Mazda did the switch, when they went to blacked out idiot lights on the 88 models and carried the look over to the S5 cars.

Alright, that's all I needed to know. I see now about the shaded lip thing, the one I have right now has that. Think it's possible to Dremel the 88-91 down to fit it should I just sell it and buy a 86-87?

Or buy the clear plastic trim cover from a 88-91 and swap that on to your earlier one

On the idiot lights.

The clear plastic trim on the idiot lights is the difference and interchangeable.

You mean the clear plastic piece that actually goes over the idiot light panel? The idiot light surround I have now form the 88-91 is too big because it has this back lip thing and doesn't even come close to fitting. So I guess the choice is either swapping the cover for the idiot light panel, or buying a 86-87 idiot light surround. Anyone got pictures of the two idiot light set-ups? I'm not sure what either looks like really since mine in my car was always broke.

yeah. I have posted pictures a couple times before.

86-87:

88-91:

and yes, you either change the clear plastic trim panel for the Clock/warning panel, or you change the trim panel for the dash around the idiot lights.
