If you aren't running a FMIC, what's wrong with the stock location?

I have mine mounted off to the left, about 1/4 over my left brake duct. I wouldn't have one at all, but I got hit with a no front license plate ticket, so I had to put one on.

You could make one that mounts in the stock location but pivots at speed to be horizontal to minimise restriction.

I'm here in WA where you have to have one as well. I haven't had one for about 4 years when an LEO followed me through a parking lot + pulled up behind me. He asks me where my plate is + I told him that when I had to swap plates, I couldn't get the front back on + was working on getting it there. He just asked for ID + title (no ins luckily... didn't have it at the time) + was on his way.

I got some of those drywall screws (the plastic ones w the really big threads on them) + put them in the holes in the bumper. Then used two screws + washers to hold the plate on with. It works really well, except one of the screws won't tighten all the way into the drywall screw because it keeps spinning. If you do this, then you can bend your plate to the contour of the front bumper + not lose any cooling ability.

MI certainly doesnt seem to require one, so i dont have one on there. I just moved from NJ tho, and i think they do, so i had it on the dash on the pass side since one of the bolts that holds the bracket on broke and I didnt want it held on with just one bolt

I tried to put mines on the dash and got alot of grief from the NYPD. so I just placed it low on the left

It's really not that big of a deal, unless you drive through those little podunk towns where the police will ticket you for anything + everything. I live by one of those places, my aunt got a ticket for no front plate, her son has a mazda truck w a roll pan w the crooked licence plate in the back too. While that's not illegal, they still hassled him about it.

Ziptied to the grid that's in the stock S5 bumper opening, blocking the bottom a bit, with the bottom edge of the plate bent under the lip. I take it off when I go to the track though.

^^haha ziptied to the grille as well here. MD requires a front tag and they've been real ******** about it lately. Got pulled over without one, told him I didn't have a bracket and waslooking for one so I put it on the dash and got pulled over a week later. I told him it was just there until I got a bracket but he gave me a written warning. So I ziptied it to the grille. Good thing it wasn't anything major cause I was just using the plates off of my FB LOL Hey it still shows up Mazda RX-7, just not the right year LOL

I just went to Advance Auto parts and bought the plastic "Fit-all" one... I had to drill to mount it but who cares.

My old OEM mount had broken on the previous owner... he had it held on with hose clamps and zip ties. (No lie)

I got pulled over once for not having mine on my front bumper. The cop was like, "Do you know why I pulled you over!" Also I had a couple of drinks! haha... I was like "I don't have a clue why!". He was like where's your front license plate. I pointed to it in my passenger side of the windshield. Then I he was like oh, well you need to get a bracket, and put it in the front. I was like sure. And I haven't got pulled over for it ever since!

Had mine on the dash and a cop that was in front of me pulled behind me and pulled me over. He said it was because my plate caught his eye and he probably wouldn't have pulled me over if it wasn't there. He gave me a verbal warning and I took the plate out of the window. Haven't been hassled since.

Mine is mounted using the stock Mazda bracket that places it in the middle of the bumper. It's not as aesthetically pleasing as it could be, but it's far better then placing it somewhere where it makes the car look uneven or causes airflow issues.

I just don't want to drill my poor bumper
and as of right now, I have a bra on, since my bumper is primered, and I'd rather get the engine rebuild before getting my car buffed/painted again.

Well mine has two little holes in the bra with zip strips through them. Look great and functional too. Oh yeah the plate has been bent to the exact curvature of the bumper. Not really sure how that happened.

I knew a guy who had a Eclipse GSX with a huge FMIC and here in VA you have to have a front license plate, so he used tin snips and cut the plate down around the letters and stickers. he never seemed to get any **** about it.

That seems like about the worst location. It would cover up my custom brake duct intakes. And I need those.

I am also confused as to why multiple people seem to think the stock location (via bracket) blocks any airflow to anything? It puts it above the radiator oil cooler opening in front of bumper facia.....
