ok first off i tried searching and didnt find anything that answered my questions. here is the story.. i live by chicago and i drove my car to southern illinois to go to school. i was driving for 4 hours and got off the highway. so far so good. i stopped at a light and when i shifted through the gears fifth gear didnt work. i could shift in to it with no problem but when i pushed the gas it just reved like it was in netural. all the other gears are still working perfectly though. if anyone could help me out or has any ideas of whats wrong it would be greatly appreciated.

 

sounds like you just lost 5th,,,,,,,if 5th went the others may not be far behind. Drain your gear oil and check for major metal chunks......fine silt like metal will be normal,,,,anything bigger and you got problems. good luck

not sure about these mazdas,,,,,,but in come muncies and saginaws it could be a linkage problem,,,,,,,,it might be something like that here (internally of course)

 

No grinding or hard shifts preceded this, huh? You got reverse OK?

 

That would be me, large metal chunks coming out. *sigh* Oh well, get a new tranny Friday, yay!

i missed a shift from second to fifth and broke mine, put a s5 tranny in. S5 tranny GOOOOOD!.


i had no reverse too tho..

IMO, just **** can the N/A trans and go with the Turbo 2 trans swap.

 

yeah i still have reverse, fifth is the only one gone.
