Ok my car hasn't been starting lately. I can hear the relay get power but the starter doesn't crank. I'm getting PISSED! At first I could just jiggle the wires and hit the starter, but now that doesn't work. So i think i'm gonna need a new starter. BUT another thing is, is that i never had to put my clutch down to start my car. So could it be the switch down there or what. Cause this only happens when the car is hot. so WTF!?!?! STUPID STARTER!!

Sounds more like the wires not the starter. Yes you always have to put the clutch to the floor to start.

Sounds like the starter is breaking down under heat. Next time carry a hammer. Reach under the car and smack the body of the starter and see if it starts. I'd recommend jacking the car and putting a meter on the small wire on the starter and looking for 12v when you turn the key to start. Or getting under and jumpering the small blade connector to the large 12v cable on the starter and seeing if it spins the starter, but these have been recommended before with out anybody trying them, so just forget about them. Or the one where you take the trail coil and move it out of the way until you see a blue connector with a jumper wire in it. REmoving the connector with the jumper and then jumpering 12v from the battery to the black/white wire in the other part of the connector(*the one with the jumper*). That gives you a straight shot from that black/white wire to the starter, but then again thats been suggested before, so just forget that idea too. Use the large hammer up the side of the starter the next time it goes click, click. Of course you've already checked and made sure the battery post connectors are on good and clean and the other ends that connect to the starter and its retaining bolt are on good........so smack the starter with the hammer. Or buy another starter.

what i meant when i said that is, I don't have to push the clutch in to start my car. It wasn't a question it was a statement.

Most sensible people who work on their cars, and have short tempers like me, do away with the clutch switch by jumpering around it. Might have been done by the previous owners. Not an uncommon thing.

yeah, it does sound wiring related. I'd look over the main starter wires very carefully before I replaced the starter. Make sure they've got a good connection, and are tight.

I can see heatsoak being an issue in other cars, but where the RX7 starter is, no. The exhaust is no where near the starter, and that's what ususally gets a starter, not just engine heat.

did you remove the heat shields? That'll do it. But the exhaust just gets hot, not too much you can do aside from putting some reflective heat shielding up around the tranny and shifter opening.. Probably more work than it's worth.
