i think i broke my 7-- kinda long post
i have a 1986 gxl with a rebuilt motor about 10 months ago.
i've searched but not sure what's relevant since one thing happens after another.
i took the car to the track just to see how it is (the straight away kind) and of course it was terrible since it was my first time. anyhow, i did a couple launches with 2 having some really bad wheel hop. afterwards slpin and i were coming back home, i noticed the rear was making weird noise when i made left and right turns. i figured i probably messed up my rear with all that wheel hop.
well i decided to check my diff fluid since i've haven't since i bought my car (2 years ago). i refilled my fuild and it went away for a while but whenever i downshifted from 5th to 3rd, it squeals like crazy. it never happened before. that was two weeks ago and i haven't down shift since then.
just yesterday, i checked my rear end again, check the drive shaft for play, and peeked at the tranny. there seemed to be some fuild around the end of the tranny, close to the drive shaft. afterwards, i changed my alternator belt since my old one had strectched (it was scretching) and well as replace my clutch fan because the bearing in my old one crapped out on me.
so i went and test drove the car. the tranny shakes tremendously above 5K and i didn't even want to downshift it anymore. i can drive it like a granny and it'd be fine but making left or right turns still give me weird nose from the rear.
im still pretty new to cars period so my knowledge is not so much yet. any ideas?
mess up syncros, bad tranny mounts, messed up lsd, band u-joiints/drive shaft, all of the above?
i do have a gtus tranny and drive shaft just laying around but i don't feel like swapping it in unless i really need to. i don't have much free time because of school.

I would look at the rear subframe and differential mounts. With excessive wheelhop, it's very possible to break differential mounts and cause all sorts of interesting problems. If the differential is totally disconnected from the frame (all the mounts are broken), it could possibly be flopping around a bit and causing the vibration issues.

sounds like a bad tranny mount, but the squealing sounds like a bad tranny not sure man, try to get a sound clip on here of the tranny squealing, the sound will decide whether you have a bad tranny or if you have a seized throwout bearing
well i went to wal-mart and didn't record sound but i think its my tranny that's the problem. i'll just swap it out along with the drive shaft and replace the tranny mounts with the poly ones. i've been thinking of it and now's i have a good reason.
