for idle, i wouldn't idle it excessively, 30 minutes initially is fine but idling is hard on plugs because idle is usually the richest part of an engines running duties. all you can really do is wait.

I'd still at least start it up every day or two until he gets his permit and let it idle for a bit at ~1500 rpms, a sitting rebuild can cause a bad flooding situation once you try to start it again months later heh.

Yea man thats about all you can do. I love that though, no licence but a rebuild in your car. heh,, just like me
Just wait it out man. You could chance it and take it out at around midnight and drive it around your nieghborhood and stuff once a night. Im sure it would be broken in by then.

If you have little driving experience I wouldn't recommend it, if you get caught you are seriously fucked, well I know you are if you live in canada

high idle is better, just don't start it and shut it off, let it run for about 20 minutes or so to warm up every time you start it.

or not, it would not only likely foul the plugs often it would leave carbon deposits.
the best way to break in an engine is to drive it.

i will never risk driving it without a licence or permit.. do you really think idling all day would be ok for it?

This thread is full of terrible advice. DON'T idle it excessivly. DON'T start it and run it a little every day.

Just properly store the engine, and do a proper break in when you have your license back. You can use fogging oil to keep the insides of the engine in good shape. Do a search for my name and storage for details.

i was thinking the same thing Aaron but i kept in mind how much work he has done and i know it isn't possible for him to not start and run the engine after so much effort, it is a worthy suggestion but not likely going to happen.

i know i probably wouldn't be able to sleep at night either knowing i had a brand spanking new rebuild sitting out in my garage!

well i will say this, if your parents are good parents once they hear or see you driving it out on the road without a license they will probably ground you from the car meaning you wouldn't even be able to start it and run it every few days to keep it fresh. just run it at a high idle and maybe drive it up and down the driveway or make yourself a loop track where you can drive it for a while under a light load.

better to keep the future in mind then let your anxiousness get the better of you and possibly ruin your efforts, an idle(sitting not running) rotary is the devil's playground...

I have a rebuilt bridgeport sittings on the engine stand, waiting for the bodywork to be finished. I will have a had time breaking it in properly and trying not to rape it. Oh, and chances are I am older than your father. If I was your age, the engine wouldn't have a chance.

So here is what I suggest. Let Dad drive it back and forth to work, In the evening or on the weekends, offer to buy gas for the car and go for drives. You can spend some time together, breaking in the motor, learning a little more about driving and more about the car.

Who knows. by the time you can drive on your own, he may want one too.

I say start it once or twice a week and let it warm up fully, idle set at 1500. Then shut it off and wait a few more days. Perhaps for the first few days, let it idle, but after a few hours of idle time, nothing much will be gained.

find a cousin or a friend with a license and get them to put-put you around town with it, and then get them addicted to rotary's as well so you have a buddy to work on your car with
