I Need Some Help Please

Hi Guys,

I have an issue with my RX-7. Recently I noticed my stock boost gauge not working and my car was not idling correctly either. It idles low and shuts the motor off most of the time. Whatever the issue is, it is flooding my engine. But after "de-flooding" my engine, it starts but still continues to shut off if I don't keep the RPMs up. Since I noticed my stock boost gauge not working I checked all of the vacuum hoses and I did come across a broken hose. I need some help determining what the hose is called and where I can get a replacement. I searched around the forums for quite some time but I couldn't find anything that directly looked like my issue. Attached are some pictures of what I am talking about (if I did it correctly). One side of the hose has a piece of metal in it that is broken off

The car is a 1987 Mazda RX-7 Turbo II. Thank you in advance for your help.

Thanks,
Kyle

You could buy vacuum hose at any auto parts store and will cost less than a buck. If the hose is the same diameter as the other smaller sized hoses then the hose is a 5/32 inner diameter. Place the metal restrictor back into the new hose at the same position and orientation.

Is it the top hose in that pict or the bottom? doesn't matter for replacement hose, but if its not the one going to the small black box on the Pass side shock tower you won't need a restricor.
But yes bring the hose inside and tell them "i need this size hose.

Hey guys,

Thank you for your responses. I will definitely take the hose in with me to the auto parts store when I grab a replacement. **I updated the attached pics with hopefully a little more detail** Attached is the new edited picture of the hose and where it broke off from. This side of the hose is not a clean break and there is still some metal inside of it but the other side can just be pulled off. What do you think?

Thanks,
Kyle

It appears the metal nozzle broke off and that is the piece that is still lodged in the hose end. Is this correct?

Yes, that is correct.

I was thinking about removing the remaining rubber from the nozzle and fastening the replacement hose with a clamp around whatever metal is left. I'm hoping it won't make a difference on the lenght of metal needed...but correct me if I'm wrong.

The worst case scenario likely would involve capping the nozzle and tapping into another vacuum source which there are many to choose from.

That is an option...but I'm a little sceptical as to where the hose starts and stops from. It doesn't look like just a regular vacuum line to me. In the attached pictures, I drew some colors in to make it a little more obvious. I know I am terrible at describing it so hopefully my artistic "microsoft paint editing work" can clarify.

The *red arrow* in one picture is where the hose starts/stops and the *red star* in the other picture shows the other connection point. The yellow lines are drawn over the same hose in both pictures (the broken hose that needs replacing) Let me know what you think...and thanks again satch for your help in this matter.

don't overthink it guys.

that is the blow off valve vacuum line, the rubber just got brittle and snapped off at the fitting. go in with some pliers and snap off the remaining brittle rubber from the nipple and install a new vacuum line across the length to the blow off valve. there is no restrictor in that line. your pointers are going to the right locations for that line.

Thanks Karack. That was going to be my first step...and hopefully last step in this matter. I'll try it out today after work and update this post with the result.

Thanks again to everyone for the help,
Kyle
