I need more power

I need more power. What can I do to my rex without doing a turbo, supercharger, or nos??
What mods and upgrades can I do and how much power can I expect to get out of them???
If I do decide to run nos how big of a shot can I Safely run??
Thx

Porting. Port your throttle body, upper/lower intake, exhaust ports on rotor housings, and intake [streetport or bridgeport]. Lightweight flywheel, remove a/c, air pump, upgraded fuel computer. That should help.

Power is good. I was in the same predicament but it really depends on what you're going to use the poewr for. For straightline power, your best bet is probably porting, intake, exhaust, etc.. and eventually lightening your car. I wanted cornering performance or basically circuit racing which i need overall band power. In any case, a good place to start is your airflow systems *intake/exhaust. A straight through exhaust will give you more high RPM HP, but lose a little on lower RPM OOMPH, and an exhaust that goes from a 2-1 setup will give you more oomph on the get go, but less higher end HP because of the back pressure induced.

As for the interior... hmm... i didn't change too much in my car just seats, stereo, shift ****, steering wheel, shift boot, floor mats, and... that's about it. Well that is quite a bit now that I look at it. ^_- If you're planning on reupholstering the whole car that's gonna cost ya bucks. If you just want minor changes like repaint the trim and stuff, you can probably do that yourself. I'm planning on repainting some of the trim items like the interior door handles etc.. I'm not an expert on painting exterior *I've only worked on motorcycle fairings* but from what I hear, you'll probably want some expert to do the whole deal because they not only just paint the car but they also pound out any imperfections they might find on the car like dings or whatnot. At my friend's shop they charge around 3K to do the whole shibang. That's a little much in my book. ^_^

Well good luck on whatever you decide to do and post pics after it's done! I'm gonna post pics of my car after it's done I wanna see everyone else's and compare!

Peace,
AJ ^_^

You should ALWAYS rebuild your engine when doing any kind of porting. So, as far as time, the whole engine would have to be removed and rebuilt, ported, and then re-mounted. This is a lot of work... probably 30 hours of labour at least. If you get a large streetport, you should be able to push around 190-200 with a straight exhaust/headers and intake. I don't know if you have a turbo II or not, but with the other mods I mentioned you should be around 220-225. That's about the most you can get out of an N/A to my knowledge without forced air induction. The throttle body is that piece of metal that sits on the very top of the engine where the intake pipe mounts to. Porting it allows more airflow, which is always good because then the engine can put more O2 into the combustion chamber at once... more power.

The throttle body mod doesn't add horsepower. It's designed to increase throttle response, and improve the idle. If you PORT your throttle body, that adds HP.

How much hp does porting add? How much does it cost?? How long does it take to port?? Would I be able to do it myself or would I need to pay someone?

Not trying to be funny, but making a na fast takes lots of time & money. I would detail your RX-7 and sell it for a TURBO! Hey I love em! Good luck though!

I would rather supercharge my car then get a whole new engine or car with a turbo in it.

I'm also interested in supercharging my '88 SE.

I've done little/no mods, just gutted all three cats so my exhaust is fairly free-flowing. How restrictive are the stock mufflers?

And where can I get a supercharger and/or info about supercharging NA FC's? Is mariahmotorsports.com a good source?

I answered ALL those questions regarding porting in my previous post! I don't know a thing about nitrous though as I would never put that **** in my car. And I don't know if you'd be able to port yourself... do you know how to portor have any rotary experience? If you answer no, then of course you'd have to pay someone to do it!
