I need Icemark's help (or someone like him) Factory Stereo Blues
I have a situation that needs an electrical guru with further knowlege than I. I have a factory stereo that powers up but has no audio.
The setup. The car is a s5 GXL. the car was originally equipped with a Clarion Cassette deck with the digital graphic equalizer module. This system was replaced many years ago with an after market pioneer stereo. I was never satisfied with the sound and didn't like the fact that I had door speakers that did nothing.
I wanted a factory Pioneer CD cassette stereo. After looking for quite some time, I purchased a CD Cassette stereo from A S5 vert. I installed said stereo and get no sound from the speakers. I can however, hear the amplifier power up and a barely audible hiss from the speakers. I contacted the seller and he said the unit was working.
I need to know, Is there a difference that will prevent the convertible stereo with the single button AE from working on my car? If so, What do I need to do to correct it?
Thanks in advance for the electrical help.

Never have worked on the S5 coupe, just the S5 airbag vert and the S4 GXL.
Looking at the wiring diagrams, I don't think this unit is going to work easily. Anything will work if you are patient and can read a wiring diagram.
Do you have the link to the full 1991 Factory wiring diagrams?(-not the 89FSM)

Keep 'em coming guys.
And yes, I am completely aware Icemark passed. He was probably one of the best on this board when it came to electrical issues.

FYI, bypassing the factory amp under the passenger dash (as lunchbox suggested) would have allowed the door speakers to work in the first place. Then you wouldn't have had to convert back to the factory radio. So if the head unit you bought is no good, you can go back to your aftermarket pioneer deck.

sad thing about the factory cd player is that even if the unit works the cd player doesn't.
you can get a nice clarion cz100 new for $60. wire it straight to the factory speakers and it will make them sing. the bass response is amazing.
though if you must get the old pioneer in oder then do the amp bypass.
