i need help my rx7 wont idle

Angry i need help my rx7 wont idle

i have a 88 rx7 non turbo and when my car is off the speed odmeter is at 2000 rpms when i start the car i need to keep it over 3000 rpms to keep it running if it drops in between 2000 and 3000 rpms i can not keep it running its really pissing me off. Can some one help me please!!!

Sounds like you have a large vacuum leak, which is providing excess air to the engine (hence the high rpms) and also causing it to run too lean at low rpm.

You can check for the lean condition by measuring the voltage off of the oxygen sensor; anything over .45 volts is rich, less than that is lean.

Does the ECU report any trouble codes?

You mean the tachometer reads 2k rpm with the ignition turned off? Did you move/modify the needle position for any reason? It'll be pretty difficult to troubleshoot without this information, because it could mean that 3K rpm is really only 1K rpm on the engine side. Fix your tach to start with, then check or vacuum leaks/reinstall the BAC if you took it off/adjust TPS/verify timing once you can get the idle under 1K.

i did not touch the tachometer i just went to start it to have it warm up an when it started it just died an the tachometer was at 2k rpm i am goin to look for the vacuum leak an turn the tachometer back to 1k rpm an see what happens i want to thank u guys for ur help
