i need help with this guys!!!

hey, i have a problem with my 7...today i put on a fiero fan and it ran great. i wired it up by a switch i can turn on my self..well i went to my friends house to use his air compresser to clean the engine bay a lil bit...so i leave his house and i didnt turn the fan on cuz i thought i was cold and wasnt gunna get hot, then i saw my friend with a 88 se so i busted a u'wy and we pulled over together an i left my car running after like 5 mins of owr talking on the side of the road my car started to smoke and i just ignored it and said that it was the oil i cleaned off the engine burning off, then the smoked stop and my add coolent buzzer went off (and i was like oh ****) so i turned off my car and turned on the fan and walked in front of my car and all the coolent was goin down the hill then i called one of my other friends to see what the fck it was...then i rooled it down the hill on the side of the road back to my friends house w/ the air compressor and added water and didnt see any leaks any where on the radiator then i was liek oh **** im burning all off...then my other friend that i calle to see wtf it was...wanted me to drive to his house(2 miles away)we added more water cuz it went down again...then he told me that he thinks it was the pressure from all the heat spitted it out of the radiator over flow tank, so i looked at that and it looked like it did...i drove it home...so what do u guys think of that...can i drive it to school tomrrow...help

how high up was your temp gauge? the water in the bottle wouldn't get hot... so I doubt it was from heat.

so the overflow bottle cracked? just replace it. I'm sure there's nothing wrong unless your temp gauge was way to high too.

you should by a temp switch so the fan turns on by itself !!

You did the unthinkable.

By unthinking.

You disabled the WORKING cooling system and made the new fan dependant on a person to turn it on.

YOu now have overheated your engine and done untold and an indefinate amount of damage to it.

If it now wont hold water, you cracked somthing maybe?

Find the leak.

Drive it wherever you like, but keep that fan on and find the leak.

Change your oil too.

Also, put a damn thermostat on that fan or replace the factory part.

wow.

Sniper_X

Crack Kills.

and that was the LONGESTDAMNSENTECNCEIEVERREAD!

jeesh.

The if the temp gugage was ALWAYS at halfeway, then you MIGHT be okay.

But if ther was no water in the engine, it would still show halfway.

dump the oil and change it.... its dead.

Hopefully there is no permanent damage to the working surfaces inside.

Because you probably burned the hell out of it.

All the radiator fluid poured on the ground.

It wasnt cooling the engine.

Please start thinking about the engine as a working system of coolants and how each part causes the others to fail/work.

Think back to the decision to put the fan on a switch that the driver controls.

What could go wrong with that?

Now apply the "what could go wrong" process to the other parts of the car.

now...
was your attention drawn to the O2 Sensor?

It should..
it could now be fried if it overheated too badly.

Remember the gauge would show halfway if the water was all gone, but the engine would have superheated internally.

Nitro..

lets look at this.

If there was no water..
The intake got no water.

So it goes into cold start mode.
How does it know to go into cold start mode?

Water.
Water heats up.
opens the thermowax.

but it got no water.
so it played like it was cold.

Also, the thermo unit on the bottom of the radiator CERTAINLY got cold.

This tossed the ECU into cold start too.

Voila, 3k RPM, cold start.

Im not suggesting the water went into the oil.

Im suggesting the oil is now useless because you over heated it so badly.

The oil.
overheated.
this broke the oil.

replace it.

I mean were only talking $20.

Now, you should get a factory service manual.
Read it at lunch, dinner, bedtime.

Until you know that there are about 12 things that control the idle of an rx-7.

The bastards.

Well, if the temp gage ever got up near the H then you could have done severe engine damage, possibly necessitating a rebuild. IF it was only like that for a couple of minutes then you might be ok. The best test to see if internal damage was done: with engine cool(enough to open coolant cap) fill the coolant up and leave the cap off. Start the car, adn observe the coolant opening while cranking. IF water is pushed out as if forced by something, then there is internal water jacket damage. IF it remains pretty much stable, then you're likely ok. I have to agree with the others here...that was a pretty dumb thing to do. Not that I have anything against e-fans, I run one on my car and I have modified customers' cars with them as well. But they must be properly controlled...the fans I use have a low power and a high power input, and you can either run low power all the time, or high power off a thermostatically controlled switch(temperature switch) available at autozone for $17.99. I recommend you do one of the above or put the stock system back on until you can...the stock system works VERY WELL for what it is.

Uh... dude? The point of a fan on the radiator is to pull air through it when the car is not moving quickly enough to force air through. Sitting on the side of the road idling is the time at which it would be most necessary.

GET A THERMOSTATIC SWITCH. They're not that expensive. And do some research the next time you intend to screw with the factory setup. The idea is to make an upgrade, not just a modification.
