I need help!!!

Hey guys I just bought my first rx7 it's a 87 not really sure of the model. I bought it for 600 dollars the body is great shape. One of the fenders has a dent so it need to be replace n the hood too. A few rust spots on the door nothing big. My problem is the motor it idles really high n now it's dosent wanna turn on? Im pretty sure thT it needs a new motor. Did I get a good deal? Or did I get rip off? And I was looking at a motor it's a 13b turbo series 5 (89-91) would that fit in my rx7? Pls help me out

You deffinetly did not get ripped off. That was a steal, good motor or not. First how much do you know about this car/engine??? Most people are afraid of these cars when they find out that the engine is diffrent from pistons. That's why they sell for cheap. Once you know more about your engine, the better details you can give us to help you out. Start with compression, If you have good compression, then you might have an engine well worth it's investmen. Learn how to do a compression test for a rotary then you can move on to all the other steps. You could have a problem as simple as a loose or cracked hose. And if you decide to part out your motor, I'm intrested in the s5 turbo and maybe othercomponents. Good luck!!!

spend some time online here and do some searches. there are plenty of archived build ups in the archive section here.

There is also an options list that will help you sort out which model you have purchased.

And don't expect responses in 10 minutes

Ahhh I see,
Yes the s5 will fit no problem, I've done an N/A to turbo swap and it was fairly simple. Make sure you do your research first, there will be a lot of questions on compatability and what items to change and rearange. The misfire could be lot's of simple things, it's all about how you narrow out the symptoms...And Welcome to the ROTARY SCENE...

N it stalled out on me while i was driving. I mean I knew it would need a new engine I'm just trying to get it off the guys property I don't wanna water money on a tow truck.

Yes and no.

First off, your motor needs a compresion test before you start looking for motors...
unless you want to go turbo.

was your car turbo?

if so try going to mazda and getting a reman... you get basically a new motor. for about 2,000 if it is still avail.

if not go jdm. thats what i almost did but i got the last reman s4 turbo motor. s5's are better but im keeping my car almost stock.

I wanna go turbo and I did a research n there's this place around where I live that sells jdm motors they are call jdm depot in Kearny nj they are sellig them for 1300. This might be a stupid question but would the twin turbo motor fit my 87 rx7?

it could but a single turbo conversion is what all 3rd gen rx-7s do when they want to start making power. if you want top power get a bigger turbo. I heard the stock s5 block can hold 400hp properly tuned.

of course you would need a bigger turbo, injectors, stand alone computer (haltek) and fuel pump with a frount mount intercooler.

the twin turbo setup on the rx-7s i beleve are like the supras. one small turbo for low rpm and a big turbo gor high rpm. too much ducting and are a pita to work on.

http://rx7.com/store/rx7/fcindex.html

this site has all the performance mods you can afford.. lol

start with a exhaust. you get 60hp on a turbo rx-7 by elimaniting the 3 cats on the car. this ups your boost and lets the engine breath

Hahah yea I was checking online n rolling shells go for like 1200 in a bad shape. The one I bought just needs a fender n prob a hood. Everything is original the paint is in good shape still shines it's like a dark grey with red interior. I'm glad I bought it lol I have having second thoughts on it

First things first guys, Do brakes, brake hoses, change bushings, shocks. check springs. Do all your safety stuff first. If you go fast and cant stop theres no point in going fast right.

change your spark plugs and look up the deflooding procedure and premix threads, when i got my first 7 the omp was bad and it would have power loss when it did crank cause i only had spark on my front rotor, cause the back rotor was flooded. Flooding also misguides people into thinking they have a bad motor when they actually dont!

^^GOOD INFO

i kinda felt like mine was holding back on me so... i changed oil, gear oil, coolant flush and change, new plugs, metal ast tank and it runs basically the exact same. I beat my buddies cobalt ss from a 20 roll n he ran 13.8@102 last year so i guess its running good. LOL i must just be used to more powerful cars, havent been in something slower than a 13.2 since 07 when my cobalt was stock back then haha. need to get a catless dp (feels like the cat is clogged, had the problem on my civic n it feels similar w/ the rx but it still moves n pulls just not like i expect it to) and the rest of the bolt-ons ASAP lol
