i know which efan im going with..now the controller
ok..first of all..i tried searching....but didnt see anything i was looking for....ok....i know which efan im going with.....now i need a fan controller, this is what i want....something that will turn on while idling/creeping in traffic, also turns on when i turn on the AC...most ready made kits only offer the temp sensor control, and nothing about the AC override....can anyone help?..thanks......
for those who ask why im going electric.....2 month ago my fan clutch broke...replaced one from the junkyard and that worked fine til last week.....even though the past few days its been workin...im sick of living on the edge....

I am using the flexalite variable speed controller. Its a bit pricey, but the thing works awsome. It does not turn the fan on for the first 30 seconds so as to not overload circuit. It can vary the fan speed from 60 to 100%. Then it keeps the fan on for 30 sec after you turn the motor off. It comes with all the wires, and even the thermo probe. I paid 70+ from summit.

just run a wire to the fan relay from the AC compressor. there should be a wire on the compressor that is on only when the AC is on. run the wire from the compressor or inside the car or wherever you like so long as it is only on when the AC is on. put it on the same terminal as the trigger wire from the thermostat.

ps if that doesnt explain it enough i can get more detailed next time

i think so, the tauras fan i got has 3 wires attached to it.....2 needs to be + and 1 - for the fan to work....so i pretty sure its safe to say one of the + wire will go to constant while the other 12v goes to thermostat fan control......but if anyone know for sure..please let me know....i tested it by touching the wires to a jumper box....so not sure if a voltage less than 12v will work..thanks

another method of electric fan control
ok.....after looking at alot of the aftermarket solutions for my problem i've noticed that many of them use a probe that sits outside of the rad to sense temperature.....on my T2 there are 2 coolant sensors present....one on the filler neck and one on the rad itself.....is it possible to wire the controller using the stock coolant sensor?...considering its soaked in the coolant to provide the most accurate temp readings also i do not have a aftermarket water temp guage so i do not know the exact water temp...if i were to purchase an aftermarket fan controller, how would i know what settings to set it to to provide the most efficient cooling(on when the thermostat opens)
thanks
thanks

i could be wrong, but a relay on the motor wouldn't serve much purpose as it would quickly overheat. Then again, it is ford.

I personally use the thermostat systems that are sold at most parts stores. They all work pretty well, and keep the fans off when not in stop/go traffic.

Ok then.
Anyhow just to verify, you said the stock A/C condensor fan switch, switches at 197degF? I'm considering using it for a secondary pusher fan, and use a 190on-180 off puller fan switch. In that way, if I was hot rodding it and got it above 197 the second fan would kick on to drop it back down. Saves the price of buying two temp-switches instead of one.

I told him that they are used as a switch on the cooling system, specificaly used on applications where you turn an electric fan on at a defined temp. He was like "I don't think we carry anything like that."

As for the temp.. 197 (or there abouts) is a bit high for me.. Personal preference. I prefer to have control over when my fan kicks on.

you probably do have the single speed. Stock switch on T2 isnt 197 its 207...way too hot. I am using a fan i got at the junkyard right now...from an olds achieva automatic... its a 16" S-blade...works really nice, single speed, only has 2 wires, cost 15 bucks. You dont need a fancy thermostat, just get a cheap one and splice in a wire from the ac like i said before.

ok.....i wired up the fan today....ran the thermo switch to a 30 amp relay that triggers the permacool fan....now its acting funny....ok...first not knowing how to set the on/off temp i just waited til the engine temp guage was showing normal temp...that worked fine......guage never went above 1/8......then the problem..after i turned off the car...fan stays running...i figure this isnt a big deal..just the fact that the temp is still high enough to trigger the thermo switch....so then after 5 minutes or so the fan stops....then...maybe 10-20 minutes later fan comes back on and runs for another 3 minutes or so.....again the fan goes off and happenes again....then the 3rd time i got pissed and popped the hood, touched the rad and it was cool to the touch(the core was cool, top plastic endtank was warm)....meaning its lower than the temp i set it at.....as far as i know the contact relay i bought from radio shack is good as well as the thermo switch...unless it was defective from the factory, the wirings were done following the guides...which was idiot proof.........so how does the fan turn on even when the rad has cooled?........also i want to hook up the fan so it runs when the A/C is running....is this a good idea?....would there be problems with overcooling the car?...if not..how can i disable the stock ac fan and use the source to trigger the new one?....
one more thing...i need a ignition switch from the engine bay perferable from the passanger side.....where would be a good source to splice for the fan controller?

I haven't installed it yet but I have the permacool 16 and the Black magic temp switch.
The black magic one uses a probe which you can actually stick into the coolant stream.
So here's my setup.
Permacool (90bux)
BM Temp switch(25bux)
So I save like 80 for not having a fan shroud over the Black magic fan and get a couple more CFM than it.
I plan to make a shroud out of CF or fiberglass and make it Teh Seksay
