Fix a Flat is horrible stuff, I hate it. The spare weighs what, 20 lbs.? My weight fluctuates that much
As for the fix-a-flat thing.... note that most tire sealers (even the new Slime stuff) states (in small print) not for use in speeds over 75 mph (usually).... best to keep the spare....
P.S. Alum. hoods also mark-up easily... I have what could be finger indentations along the front edge of my hood.... But I LOVE the lightweight....

I saw the subject of this thread, and without reading anything I ran to my refridgerator and grabbed a magnet, went to the garage and it did not stick to my 87 TII's hood. WooHoo!
Are all TII's hood's aluminum? I thought I saw somewhere where some were and some were not. Is it a year specific thing or what?

Hi all,
I can't vouch for American RX-7's... but the hoods on J-spec 7's are as follows:
Zenki FC (I think from 86 to 89) were all steel
Koki FC (from 89 to 92) were all aluminum
If I'm wrong on the years, sorry. You can also tell by the tail-lights (unless they were changed, of course).
The "slit"-style lights indicate a Zenki FC, and the round tail-lights are Koki.
Again, these are japanese 7's, so I'm not sure if American 7's are the same.
Hope it helps.

I've done some looking, and there's not much difference mechanically between the two cars (other than sitting on the right side), so I thought it probable that Mazda US would do the same as Japan.
Thus... because your car is a 92 and it's hood is heavy, we can conclude either:
- US-spec 7's don't follow J-spec trends
or
- Your hood has been replaced due to (insert reason here)
The last is not uncommon -- a body shop would gladly pay $50 to get a hood off a junked car and care less what it was made of...

My N/A 86 Sport had an aluminum hood, but it seems that it was a pretty random thing. it also had the aluminum scissor jack that my friend's GTU didn't.
I remember the late '85 Motor Trend article on the FC talking about it being an option, as did the late '85 Road & Track article on the FC...

You're wrong on all accounts....though not through any fault of your own...

My car is '92 TII alright, but I live in Greece, therefore we got the JSpec, not the US...
There are quite some differences between J- and US- spec cars, mainly in electric and electronic circuits/equipment (as much as I can attest). This has to do with different placement, different connectors and wiring etc etc....
And my TII is mint, without so much as a scratch on it....knew the owner, and he kept it in perfect condition. So the hood is original, and it still weighs too god damn much...

You call your car a TII.
I'd also be interested in knowing the differences between the A and J-spec wiring. Considering I used the American Mazda shop manual and wiring guide to swap motors and wiring harnesses from Japanese koki/zenki FC's and FD's into and out of different (sometimes American) chassis', one would think that I'd run into problems... If you could give me some help regarding the differences in the electrics and circuits, I'd appreciate it.
I don't know how all this came out of a simple question about a damn aluminum hood, but it's beginning to get old.

I know dre2000's hood is pretty dam heavy, and he is pullin out the spare tire and other misc things to loose weight, when a lighter hood would do a lot more
