I just don't get it...

Here's the situation:
For a couple weeks my car, an 87 rx7 se, was sputtering and stalling out while driving. It would go like nothings wrong and suddenly it would dramaticly lose power and start backfiring like mad for a while (about 4-5 most times) then go back to normal for a while and then do it again. It smelled like I was flooding real bad so I figured I wasn't producing enough spark. Check my coils. Leading's bad but trailing are fine. Found a different coil installed it. Helped but didn't solve. So I went about checking and cleaning grounds. Then it would start, idle and rev but when I put it in gear it would lose all power and die. Then it wouldln't idle.

Then my. starter stopped working. Go order a new one and it arrived today. Installed it and now it just spins. It'l fire a little bit on the initial turn over but not start. I thought it was just flooding so i would dissconect my fuel pump and let it work out any extra fuel. A few hours later it still won't come close to starting. I even tried putting it in gear getting it rolling and popping the clutch but that didn't even help.

I just can't figure out what to do.
