so my dirver's side pw switch broke for the passenger side, the passenger side one is also broken. the passenger window is down

is there any way to put that window up without the switch?

until i get a new one, of course...

btw: if anyone have an S5 driver's side pw switch they wana sell asap, pm me

 

Sure there is, take off the door panel to get to the motor. Find the electrical connection that goes to the motor and disconnect it. Then get some long wire to jump from the connector strait to the battery and hope the motor itself isn't bad. You might have to swap the wires on the connector around so that the motor goes the right way .

 

is that bad for the motor, can you just muscle the widow up if you take the panle off?

fyi: the plastic from the switch broke twice

 

I did that several times when my windows wern't working and it hasn't hurt mine, they get a 12 volt current to them anyways... I didn't try muscling them up, so I wouldn't know about that part.

 

i'm on the same boat actually.

Mine does something a little different...both of the windows go up really slow..and i mean slow...if i use the driver's switches to put the passanger's window up it goes about 3-5 inches up then slows down to a complete stop...if i use the passenger's switch to put the passenger window up it goes up slow but it actually does the full job and doesn't get stuck half way...

My question is...what is broken here? the motor or the switch..i imagine if the switch is broken then it wouldnt work at all? Sorry to highjack your thread but seen how it's on the same subject and all.

 

Have you re-greased your tracks recently? I think your supposed to do it every 10 years or so, that might help.

 

i've heard about cleaning the connections to the switch, have you tried this?

 

If the windows are down , pull out the panel and find the connector for the motor.
It doesn't matter which goes to + or - . It will either go up or down. Just reverse polarity if it does down. You probably need to clean out the contacts in power window switch. I can see why it gets corroded in there. The contacts get VERY hot when engaged. Sanding out the corrosion will cure most problems unless your motor is burned out but highly unlikely BOTH motors to go out. You will know if you can crank up the windows hot wiring it.

 

Regrease the tracks, all I did was use a little PB Blaster now they freaking SHOOT up.

I mounted & wired a GM style window switch in mine.

 

My best bet is to replace with manual window. I hate PW on old cars.

 

2nd Gen, that happened to me last night. I was wondering why mine didn't work, then..."snap," ****, dammit. Manual windows sounds like a great idea, now.

 

they sould make a manual back up, like on the sunroof's or power seatbelts
wouldnt that be a perfect world...

 

you could just take a 12v cordless drill if you have one and use that to jumpstart the motor...then you don't have to pull anywires...just pull the battery and hit the power wire on the motor with 12v and it should engage it

 

Both windows on the car will not move. The drivers side window is down, and the passenger side window is up. I havent really done anything to fix it yet, but does anyone have any advice?
