I remember I saw same setup as yours on a FC in Japan. IIRC, that car has slightly bigger open area on the hood (I wish I had a pic...). I think this idia is good because rain will not afect other stuff in engine bay. BTW, does it really makes difference and do you feel engine bay is a lot cooler than before when you open the hood after driving?

my main reason for doing this is that my underhood temps were really high, that it even made my ineterior hot to ride in, fully gutted interior, only able to roll down windows to keep cool. With this now and wraping my downpipe, going to do the rest of exhaust someday, has made the inside of the car not so hot, now iuts onlyhot from sun getting in, and has dropped my underhood temps alot, i wish i had some way to get exact temp readings before and after.

Detto. Mine has exactly same situation. Without tar and carpet it's too warm (actually it's hot)!!! I think this is the best setup if it is daily driver

All I have to say is....

ULTRAMAN!!!!!

WE NEED YOU!!!!!!

No seriously.. you mentioned the blingness.. /retch Not my personal taste.

HOWEVER... I DO like the design. You brought all the hot air through the rad etc through a DUCT up and out of the hood. Not going into sizes of ducts etc etc etc.. I think it is an EXCELLENT job. That is what some of the people who bitch and moan about thier ideas getting shot down should do.
MAKE THE THING.
Yours appears well done. Too blingey for me... But make it from CF or fiberglass.. and I would be much happier if I had it.

Nice job.

(loose the foil on the plumbing on the pipes.. /bling!)

thanks man, yeah i agrea with your mentioning of people bitching and moaning, its not hard to make things.

oh the foil on th epipes is covering more heat wrapping and the pipes are polished anyways so it would bling with out the foil. haha

Finally, somebody did something RIGHT for a change...

They are right in the fact that the leading edge of the aluminum insert on the hood needs to be re-shaped.. that hard angle is not going to create a good negative pressure zone over the voidspace while driving.. in fact, it could cause a bad swirl and a neutral or positive pressure zone.. but you are on the right track...

Quick way to test it is to blow a high volume fan over the hood (but not into the intercooler) and then set a smoke tube (or a smoke bomb) off in front of the IC and see it if pulls air through.

I have a reversed insert that I made that works, but it needs redesigned as well... and since I don't have an e-fan.. no ductwork.. all it does is pull some air out of the engine bay.. not as effective as your setup by far, but, it does vent the engine compatment better

My winter project this year is going to be a complete vented hood that closes on ductwork off an E-Fan... I want the rear "diveplane" on the hood to go down over the alternator and the leading edge of the hole to be about 5 inches back from the top of the rad.. Something like the Corvette GTS cars have
