Question about the nose of my rex

I've noticed on alot of S5's that the grille is very open, like they took out the little plastic pieces that run across/up it. I think it looks alot better without them. My question is, can you cut those out without hurting the structural rigidity of the front end?

Ok thankx for the info! Definitely have to give it a try after school. Currently i have them painted black and it looks ok, but rocks and grit from the road chip away at it and i end up having to paint it like every 3 weeks or so .
