I hope you mean your garage for YOUR check out.. I will be honest most mechanics know jack about rotarys and point at something else thats not the problem. Best mechanic is yourself and this forum. =)

It has phone dials... That's enough to say it's awesome and welcome to the board!

It's most likely a 88 SE.
It had 4 lug phone dial meaning it has single piston brakes all around. It will NOT have an LSD since the only NA S4 were 88GTU and GXL.

BTW $1800 for it isn't bad at all.

I bought my 88 SE for $1900 w/ 140k on it. It lasted about 15k with me behind the wheel but so did my 88 GTU with only 82k on it.

Congrats on the car. It looks really good.

The rear spoiler threw me off on my SE but I guess some people have it added at the dealership.

It's a good starter for an RX but you will want more.

I went to a 88 GTU which has the performance features of a Turbo with out the engine. Then I put the turbo engine in it. hehehe

Deffinitely an 88 SE because the 87 base had the non shiney phone dials.

Nice find Poder, What part of Jersey are you in?

My 87 se had lsd as a customer requestd option, i have 4lug hubs with lsd rear....Some may have it. I am the second owner and can light up both the rear tires so i know the guy wasn't lying about ordering it that way....

Lighting up both tires don't necessarily mean that you have an LSD. Cars w/o LSD can still light up both tires... I've done it many times in our family van Putting it up on the lift and turning a wheel by hand is the only way to tell unless you know for sure that you have an LSD.

Anyway, PoderRotativo, congrats on your 7 and welcome to the club!!

All 86-88 GXL's had LSD. But most are worn anyways.

Congrats.

I would recommend doing some suspension upgrades first. Then do some go fast goodies. Looks alot like a 88 SE.

But the first thing would be insurance, title, tags, inspection, emissions, probably need tires, brakes, or new brake lines or both, maybe new rotors.

It is a used car, it will have problems with it. Mine is much worse off than you it seems. I need new gearshift, tires, new springs, new struts, front end alignment, still needs inspection stickers and emissions done. And then later on comes the streetport and Greddy cat back. BAHAHAHA.

Anyways, congrats on your buy, and take care of it, and it will take care of you.

Congrats bro...I know i was so excited when i purchased my frist 7.

If you rebuild the motor, do some kinda street port atleast if you dont plan on going turbo. Buddy of mine has a NA with a decent sized street port, and its pretty damm fast for a NA... Good luck with it and welcome to the Rotary world.... from now on pistons are you enemy!!!

btw, you live in NJ... no worries if your truly stuck Judge Ito is there
