ummm... dunno. depends what it already has. If it already has lotsof miles on it then save the money for a rebuild.

I just sold my 88 se with 8k on complete rebuild for 1800. It has s5 bumper, doors, and lots of new parts.. I'd have to say you overpaid.

man every car somebody bought everybody says you overpaid for it.... most people dont know that some states, cities, even countries VARY in worth for a car, it depends on the demand for the car... if you live in a small town more than likely youll pay more for a rare car such as these.... i would say if that car runs good, has good compression, is in imaculate condition then you did good man i mean the paint looks good in that pic, no body damage i can see, i paid 4k for my convertible in mint condition with 105k original miles on it, interior is spotless and everything works.. i feel i paid the right amount for it but thats just me and i also live in a smaller town which is AMAZING i found this one.... as long as the motor lasts longer than the car payments are then you DEF get your moneys worth... better than buying a 5k+ car and then BAM the motor or tranny blows which in most cars costs an assload to replace but on rx7's parts are generally cheaper depending on where you look.. just my .02 cents... congrats on the car.. take care of her and change the oil NOW along with fuel filter, plugs, wires and any other tune ups i cant think of right now

New jersey.... lots of 7's there... But it honesly isnt that bad. I am about to dump 1k on a 87 se. Hey I see you have the stock wing.... Always good to have =). So you got around a decent price considering those wings cost about 200 bux and a se will run you a lil higher then 1k if running.. its not that bad of a deal.

glad you feel better but i do warn you change all that i listed above or you would have overpaid cause not doing a tune up can cost you lots of money for repairs.... unless you know and trust the previous owner and he said he recently replaced them.... shouldnt cost a lot, maybe a little under 100, and its always good to get a car running properly before modding it (lots of people simply do not understand that)

Did you buy this car through a dealer? Did you have a compression check done on the motor?

I hope you searched for awhile and checked into things before settling on the car you have chosen. You sound pretty excited as most are on this forum when they get their first 7. I know I was. I have a 87 Turbo 2 that definately needs some work that I paid 3600 for and 600 dollars for shipping.

Despite the fact that I in all honesty overpaid for the car. I don't regret it for a minute. I spent 2 months searching for a 7 and finally found one. I look forward to driving it every chance I get and I'm sure you will too in your 7. It's an N/A and if everything is good to go it should be pretty bulltetproof. Just remember to take care of the car and it'll take care of you. Congratulations on being the newest RX-7 owner!

Wow where is the welcome everybody? Well congratulation on the car buddy!! I payed 1700 for a 86 sport mode 7 with a busted *** body with 170000 on it. She leaks everything but she runs good and i am happy with it. Thats all it mattes! FOr around 1000 i got a alu hood, 5 lug, lsd (with new mount), new tranny mount, new radiator hose, thermo, fuel filter, bushing kit, oil cooler line, k @n drop in, new fenders. Wow i spend 1000 on top of the car i just notice. I put the stuff in my self so there is no labor. But the first thing i would do is the LSD. I couldn't care less if i was rolling on 14s but the LSD made a world of difference.

Cost of a tune up on a rex....

$21.99 for spark plug wires- mid range quality
$38.00 for Plugs- NGK only ones worth getting
$27.99 for fuel filter (under hood)
$13.00 for intank fuel filter
$43.99 for K&N drop in- (might as well)
$14.00 for oil change and filter
$27.99 for o2 sensor

Total around $186.96 depending on taxes and if you substitute a regular filter for the K&N. Welcome top the world of sports car ownership, owning a sportscar isn't cheap. The initial cost of the car is miniscule compared to the upkeep. Welcome to the club.

No such thing as overpaying if you got what you wanted...

Welcome to the forum!

I don't think you overpaid, esp. if it's in as good of shape as it looks. I searched for a couple of years for a convertible before finding mine. I hit the buy-it-now price of $6500 on eBay for a '91 with 66,000 miles on it. I then sunk another grand into it to get it perfect. Now if I could just find a cheap turbo to rape all the good parts off, it'll be done!

When I bought my Sport it has 136k miles on the engine. When it was totaled in a crash last week it had over 165k miles on it and was still running badass. You just got unlucky and purchased a car with a mistreated engine. There are plenty of people with cars that have over 200k miles on them with the original motor and are still kicking ***.
