I finally saw "Fast and the Furious"

I'm about to buy a TII next month and how are those guys in the movie getting that aggressive sound from those cars. Keep in mind I know nothing, just in the learning stage. Do any of your cars sound like this and what does it cost.

It's the Cats and stock mufflers on the car that makes it quiet, remove and replace precat with downpipe from turbo then remove main cat and replace with midpipe and last replace stock exhaust in the rear with a crazy Catback exhaust, you can also use a Turbo back exhaust it's up to you which product you use and your states emissions laws. I think it's fun to be quiet and fast which makes the girls laugh when you lay the smack down on a loud *** car.

A header won't help much on a TII

Here are some options:

Ghetto mod - Remove the mufflers, and either weld on replacement pipes or have a custom Y-pipe made at your local generic muffler shop ($100 in my area). If you don't need to pass emissions testing, then you can gut the pre-cat ($0). I had this on my TII, and it was not very loud at all unless I REALLY got on the throttle, but it sounded good. Don't gut the main cat or add an aftermarket DP unless you first upgrade the fuel system or you will run lean and blow your engine.

Normal mod - Install a nice aftermarket exhaust system or mufflers. Racing Beat and Apexi are the most common, but there are many others. This will cost between $400 and $2,000, depending on what you get. Be sure that the exhaust components are capable of standing up to the rotary engine's heat and exhaust velocity, as a lot of the common V-8 stuff (Cherry Bomb, Flowmaster, etc.) will burn up in a few weeks. If you do a search on this forum you will find a lot of info on different exhaust systems. Note that the NA and TII are two totally different cars when it comes to the exhaust.

Killer mod - Port the engine. This the only way to get that evil rotary sound. Unfortunately, it is cost-prohibitive unless you do the work in conjunction with a rebuild. A rebuild usually costs $2,000 - $3,500, depending on what all you have done, and the porting adds about $200 to that.

I didn't think so. What makes you say that? Geez, wasn't the RX-7 the car to beat? If anything it made NOS look bad.

I hated the way that FD sounded. Sounded like a 300ZX or something. That and I despise Veilside kits.

I'm pretty sure they "PASTED" in car sounds for nearly most of those haha... And the cars suck IRL compared to movie.. Like the charger only runs 11's I guess...

I thought the 3rd gen did NOT sound like a rotary =) They pasted in some other car sound for it..

HAHA and the movie made it look like all that mattered is NOS besides the charger... everyone had like stage 19 NOS, Blast after blast during a 1/4 mile.. Then for some reason a floorboard would come loose.... Shrug

cool movie cuz of cars, Bad movie cuz of rice and BS

One of my friends bought the movie and we watched it again the other night (was my second time). I really noticed a lot of things this time that I didn't notice the first that made the movie pretty lame and unreal. I'll definitely not watch it again, let alone buy it, but that's just me. I was really confused about that floorboard part too. He was running WAY too much NOS in that Eclipse, and his little computer setup was warning him of possible manifold problems, and all of a sudden a floorboard falls out, and he spins out. But then he goes running from the cops and the car drives perfectly. Oh well, it's a movie I guess, but I still don't understand their intentions on that part. . .I guess they were scaring ricers into steering clear of NOS. Whether or not the RX-7 won all the races doesn't matter. Noone wins all the time. At least in the first and in my opinion coolest and most exciting race, the RX-7 spanked everyone!

Don't forget the civic under the trailer bit.......

Look closely before and during, you'll see Movie Magic at work.

A Civic cannot fit under a standard Trailer.

First, check out the distance between the rear trailer tires and the trailer, before the Civic; then as the Civic slides past to go under, check out the extra 2 feet the trailer was "raised" by noting the spacing between the rear tires and the bottom of the trailer. They added an orangey-brown brace to raise the trailer so the Civic could slide under.

It all happens so fast, that they don't think you'll see how they did it.

But, it is a movie and movies are made to bring us fantasies. So sit back and enjoy!

The 2 or 3 minute scene in "Behind Enemy Lines" where the F-18 was trying to dodge SAM's was better way than the whole FATF movie.

Did u seen the 3-rotor in the third gen though? When it goes through the engine u see 3 rotors. But IRL the car had only 2. I figured everyone w/ 7's would pic that one up.

Although I am sure that it was just more movie magic, no heavy-*** detroit iron runs only 11's and does 60 degree wheelstands...

the cars in the movie revolve around performance mods correct? thats why he obviously imported a 3 rotar engine from overseas and installed it in the car.........

Well i see some guys seen that the rx7 had 3 rotor's but didn't anybody see that there turning the wrong direction. There showing it like I'd be taken in air threw the exhaust ports and blowin out the intake.
