Putting together a turbo engine for my vert. Spent the entire 3 day weekend trying to figure out why it's totally lean all the time. After pulling the upper intake manifold off for the 5th time, I realize that I forgot to clean off the old gasket material still left on it. Can you say biggest intake leak in the world? I'm sure however that there is no chance whatsoever of an intake leak anywhere else in the system considering how many times I checked it. Jeez what a moron I am.

Moral of the story, clean off your old gasket material.

 

Words of wisdom...been there, done that.

I take my time now and use a real gasket scraper, being extra careful on the aluminum parts.
